Hi Timur,
I started with Atkins last year - did it from 22nd August to beginning of December. I really liked it, and for me it was a great way to start as it didn't need counting. As I am so big I didn't measure protein either - just ate if I was hungry, and i found it was relatively easy to stick to. I only moved to calorie counting as it was coming up to Christmas, and eating out is hard on Atkins. Plus there was no way I wasn't going to eat roast potatoes at Christmas!
I have been calorie counting since, and actually really like the flexibility. I do sometimes miss the idea of just eating a chicken leg if I am hungry, but overall I find it means I can eat everything I want, just within reason (and not on the same day).
I found though that things Atkins taught me about my eating habits were really useful with calorie counting. So for example understanding the difference between being hungry, and wanting to eat. Also it was a great detox, and although i do eat sugar again, I find I consume less. I now also actively chose dark over milk chocolate etc.
I always think the best 'diet' is the one you can stick to. For me, calorie counting is by far my favorite so far.
Not sure how far you are into calorie counting, but hope you know you will put on a little once you eat carbs again. I found I put on 7lbs immediately, but lost all of it in a week. The following 2 weeks on calorie counting I then lost 8lbs and 7lbs. So stick with it - it does come off
