Doing 5:2 From Home ;D

Hey guys!

I figured that as quite a few of us from the DOING SW AT HOME thread (http://www.minimins.com/slimming-world/243438-doing-sw-home-668.html#post6166029) are attempting the 5:2 fasting diet, we could chat about how it's going and our meal ideas on here!

If you're already doing 5:2 - how do you use your calories? Do you save them all up for one meal at dinner time, or snack through the day? How have you found working on a fast day?

To those of you (like myself) who are going to start next week or soon, what are your plans?

Looking forward to getting started! x

Ooh hello :) I think this thread is a good idea because not everyone wants to read about the 5:2 diet & there's a lot of mixed views on it. I'm just going to give it a go & see how I get on!

Right, my plan is to start this weekend & my days next week will be:

Saturday - feast
Sunday - feast
Monday - FAST
Tuesday - feast
Wednesday - feast
Thursday - feast
Friday - FAST

I will weigh in as normal next Saturday & log the results on here as I usually do.
On my 'feast' days I plan to use the SW rules as a guidance - I know some people disagree with this but I need something in place to stop me literally eating anything I want because even with 2 fasting days I would be prone to putting weight on! I shan't be as strict with it as I normally am when on SW as technically I can have 'what I want' - but we all know that that's not strictly true! (For example if someone offers me a bit of chocolate I don't have to say no!)

I've looked up a few recipes & idea's for meals that are low calorie, ratatouille and soup seems to be catching my eye, as do egg white omelettes with veg.

So here we go, the weekend we'll be fine, Monday will be the first test!

Hi ladies, great Idea Laura setting up a second home for us ;)

The few times I've done 5:2 I've stuck to slimming world on feast days, I can't see the point of pigging out 5 days a week, I'm used to doing SW anyway, like you Toni I need the structure of SW as I know I'll just scoff crap all day cause I'm "allowed" to. I planned menus around dinner WW meal and veg then worked back caloriewise, kept back a few cals for a snack later on in the evening and for some hot chocolate so I didn't feel deprived, also made sure I had carrots and cucumber to snack on as I cooked dinner...

Personally I find it easier to have nothing other than water diet pepsi or black coffee all day as I know once I eat it kinda wakes my stomach up and I wouldn't be able to stick to it, everyones different though so the first couple of times is a learning curve.. on the upside once I'd eaten I didn't feel hungry and the next morning I didn't feel ravenous or want to fill my face all day with junk, so just stuck to red days. Plan a busy day to distract you and its half the battle won,

I was wondering what the best method would be for me regarding how to space out my calories. Some days I can go until 2-3pm without eating so if I can stretch that to a bit later I might be ok with just one meal. However my shifts next week are 8.30am til 7pm so dinner won't be until nearly 8pm! So I think it's going to be trial and error until I work out what works for me, I might try going as long as I can and maybe have a small snack about 1-2pm then dinner between 7-8pm.

Going to plan it this weekend :) bit excited actual haha.

Thats a good thing though being excited lol one 5;2 site I read said that fasting for at least 16 hours is the best way to do it as it works better, which I can see the point of otherwise it's just eating 500 cals a day instead of actual fasting if you are eating spaced throughout the day

That's true. Right I think I'm going to try to not eat until the evening!

found my notes from a couple of fast days I didn't eat until I started preparing dinner and slowly ate carrott sticks and cucumber, it was hard not to scoff them down but I took my time lol

Crudities
100g carrot 60g cucumber + teaspoon cottage cheese 35cals

SW free veg soup 25 cals

Dinner
WW pie 211 cals
Swede and carrot 20
80g brocolli 26 cals

Hot choc 40 cals

Total 360 cals

I then just used up the remaining cals on ryvita and sliced ham before bed.

How do you make your SW soup? Sounds silly but I've never made it!
I think if I need to eat at lunchtime on Monday I'm going to stick to cucumber and pepper sticks (I don't like raw carrot) so that it's very low cals. Will save the remainder for the evening meal.

Also do you use MFP to track your calorie intake?

Hi ladies,

I'm hoping to start on Monday as that's my normal WI. Just need to decide which days I'm going to fast as cant really do it on a day I'm at the gym.
Would it matter if I did them 2 in a row or do hey have to be spaced out?

I've read that you're supposed to space the fasting days out :)

Yay, thanks for all the contributions guys :D Excited to start on Monday! Going to need lots of planning though to make sure I stick to it!

I'm going to use MFP to track it, Toni - I'm not good at working calories and stuff out anyway so it'll be a big help :)

Scuse the ignorance, but what`s MFP?

Won`t be able to start Monday but plan to start the following week. Need to do some planning

The fast days need to be spread out...

Toni I hate carrott sticks too thats how why I eat them I have to take my time doing so...

The soup is really easy to make. bag of frozen free veg, farm foods is a pound for a large bag, I've got winter veg at the moment. I use about half a bag at a time, add a stock cube, salt and pepper and enough water to cover the veg. cook until soft then blitz it after it's cooled, you can add tinned tomatoes if you like but it'll add to the calorie total for fasting days...

Ah! Thanks. I`m just a menopausal 50something and not always up to speed!!:)

:)

I've used it in the past but it annoys me as it is so slow to input meals, I never seem to have time to spend doing it grrrr, sometimes good old pen and paper and my battered calorie guide are the order of the day ;)

Hi Ladies, is this thread for people doing SW on non fast days then fasting for two days a week? Believe me I've done every diet, lost 6 stone on WW, 3 on SW but doesn't dieting on your up days defeat the purpose of this diet? Surely the great thing is get through those two fast days and enjoy not counting calories/points/syns for the other five? Just playing Devil's Advocate x

I'm planning on just eating 'normally' on the feast days :) Up to the individual I suppose! :)
