    Just starting!

Last night I bought and read Kate Harrison's 5:2 diet book and think I'll give this a go. I'm sick of swinging from plan to plan, high carb low- fat to low- carb high fat- etc etc. in fact I'm bored of thinking about food full stop. Just want to get on with life. Two days fasting a week sound manageable.

I do think we women (and men) have it rough these days. The pressure on us to look thinner and younger has never been greater- pressures of work/life balance and finances have never been greater. The nation has a fascination with food matched only by its fascination with the horrors of obesity and everywhere we look there are medical people, often all highly qualified who have different ideas about how the body works and what type of food we should be eating. Breakfast is most important meal of the day. You don't need breakfast. Eat little and often. Eat once a day. Restrict your carbs. Eat four portions of carbohydrates daily. Don't eat dairy. Eat dairy or you'll get osteoporosis. Eat low fat spread. Low fat food is often high sugar/trans fat.

    Aaaaargh! Enough!

Am hoping this simple adjustment of two fast days will take my thoughts away from constantly worrying about food types and regimes. My life's too busy- I'm fed up of being stressed about whether I should trim the fat off bacon or skip the toast or feel guilty about having a cake with a friend or a meal with my family and having to 'confess' at weigh in. Guilty for gods sake- I haven't killed anyone!

    Sorry for rant. And breathe.......

Good luck everyone else, will let you all know how I get on

    Hiya

I'm just starting 5:2 as well...a work colleague is doing it and I wasn't sure, but after being away with work for 3 days and eating hotel food the whole time, I actually feel like I need to give my body a break, so I'm on my first fast day today. To be honest, I'm actually enjoying the fast day - feeling in control of my body and I think 500 calories is an okay amount. Looking forward to waking up tomorrow and for once, not having to stop myself enjoying food (but not going wild either)!

Good luck with it...hope it goes well for you! xx

Yeah- have had a babybel and a cup of soup just now and feel fine. About 5pm I'll have a couple of eggs and maybe an apple then I think that'll be me for the day. Am looking forward to a lovely bowl of porridge with honey tomorrow morning!! Doesn't help that I hate Saturdays anyway, my usual fast days will be Wednesday and Friday I think but I wanted to get going as until I've done a fast day I can't really say I'm following the plan if that makes sense.

I am doing Juddd not 5/2 but the fast days do become easier honestly . I have started a thread called who is fasting today on the main juddd/ IF forum soem days it is busier than others but the idea is to support each other through fasting days.

In general I think less people fast on weekends but i will be fasting tomorrow

    Good luck

Sounds Good! My God poached eggs on toast taste good when you've only had two hundred calories all day. My fasting food for the day:

    Cup a soup 90
    Babybel 70
    Apple 80
    1 slice toast 107
    2 poached eggs 160
3 dashes of milk in tea (30)

    Total: 537

So that's over and the interesting thing is when I was adding things up to work out how much I could have for tea I thought I'd calculated right. Clearly my brain slows down when I'm hungry!

Each calculator I use works out my TDEE as something different but averages around 2200 so
Actually 537 is within range, but was aiming for 500 so will try harder next fast day.

    Bring on tomorrow!!!

Well done for getting through it. I have seen a lot of people on here have success with 5:2 so no reason why you won't. Sometimes a change is all it takes to remotivate us!

I agree looks a good day

I loved your starting "rant" it's good to get it out if your system - I'm sure a lot of "us" here understand where your coming from

I plan my day in myfitnesspal - ok I'm still not got on or below the 500 kcals yet ., but have been "fasting" for 3/4 weeks now - each day has its own "issues" But keeping busy and drinking loads water seems to help!

Good to know you are keeping on trying

following primal blueprint and experimenting with the 5:2 fasting diet
    2013 Goals!
    Kick DietCoke habit!!
Reduce my intake of sugar & fake sugar
Eat primally - Eat plants and animals.. Etc
    Eat less processed food.

    • 2 x Kettlebell classes a week - Monday morning and Thursday evening.
    • Once fitter want to start a Zumba class - high impact - hope my heel will be ok with that
    • March/ April want to start jogging - C25k. :•)
    • start walking to school again when weather warms up.

Ok, eating what I fancy is freaking me out. Am so used to eating by a set of rules that I've forgotten how to create meals based on things I actually enjoy eating.

I think 1200 cals on up days is too low. I have about 1800 on up days, I know others have a little more and some a little less but think 1200 is definitely too low. Thought it addresses that in the Michael mosely book? X
