Another 5:2 Newbie!

Hi Guys

I'm Gill, and I want to lose around 3 stone by the beginning of October.

I have done both WW and SW since January, but with very little success and a lot of expense. I can no longer afford to do diets that, for me at least, don't work.

I decided just over a week ago to do the 5:2, and to take up swimming (the only exercise I can currently do due to a spinal problem). I am now on Week 2.

I only managed to swim once last week due to the bank holiday hampering the pool opening times, and my working hours. I did manage 2 fast days, and with my first WI on Saturday morning, I had managed to lose 4lb :)

I'll admit that I have a whole hell of a lot more to learn about the 5:2, which is where I am hoping you guys can help me.

I'm off swimming again tonight now that the pool is back to more sensible hours.

I look forward very much to meeting you all, and to learning from you.

Thanks

Gill xx

Hello! I am starting the 5:2 today. I have done SW before too, but it is expensive and only worked for me when I had the time to go to group. Hopefully this diet will work and save us money too!!

My dad has been following this diet since October and has lost over 3 stone!! Tbh it looks like he has lost more but he says not! I have tried it but was too greedy and on days I could eat I ate to extreme! Lol.

Good luck on your journey - well done on the week 1 loss!! :) x

I hope so, my food bill was topping £60 a week with SW, and theres only me! I just couldn't afford it, this way I can eat normally but less on those 2 days. The money I was spending on SW meetings will cover my Swimming Pass at the local leisure centre, and I'll gain back all the extra food shopping money I was spending.

Good Luck with your diet too!

Wow, well done to your Dad, thats amazing!

I'll be honest, I'm scared that there will be times I want to completely over indulge, but I'm hoping that knowing I have a diet and exercise plan in place that is finally working will stop me. Failing that, I'll have to get one of those Laughing Cow Fridge Cows ha ha

I'm also new to this diet, been doing it about a month now and lost a stone so far, I have replaced gym with swimming as I was scared what would happen if I did a workout with the fasting. And swimming has made such a huge difference compared to busting my gut at the gym. :) xxx

According to the book, workouts on fasting days are good and you burn more fat. A friend of mine is doing this diet and says that she has more energy on fast days.

I was scared I would pass out as I save my calories for dinner most of the time but work out in the morning. Xxx

I've only done one fast day and I did my run the previous day so haven't tried exercising while fasting yet, but I know that I usually work out before breakfast so if you like you could think of that as working out after a 12 hour fast.

Hey guys can I join please .

I'm starting the 5:2 with tues/sat being my fast days ! I'm at 8st 12 now and want to maintain and any loss will be a bonus ! I'm interested to see what calories you eat on feast days or what kind of meals you eat..

. What's the kind of normal amount of calories to consume on feast days ?? I will have zero problems with fast days being a previous yo yo dieter this will be easy for me i think lol!!!!

It depends on what you need. My daily maintain weight is 1550 and I have two fast days at 350. I'm about to start week 3. I want to lose so I'm going to do my 2 fast days and one day at about 1000 and 4 normal days - should lose 1/2-3/4lb per week. I want to lose about 10lb. I'm counting calories all days just to make sure I don't over eat. Sounds like you could eat what you like if you are fasting to maintain

It's quite easy to think 'not dieting' 5 days a week and think eating cakes and chocolate is ok! I lost the first week, think I've stayed the same this week :(

Don't sweat about the up/down days. My weight can vary by 2Kg during the week if I weigh myself every morning. My lowest always seems to be the morning a day after a fast day. (Fast Wednesday, weigh Friday AM). Not sure why this is, but it works for me. Then my weight will rise again until the next fast day. I just live with it, as I'm losing between 500-750g a week with very little effort.

Mine varies a lot too - so do you take the lowest weight as your 'official weight'?
