Preparing myself for 5:2

Hello everyone.

I am currently reading the 5:2 fasting book, and aim to watch the documentary on it too, so I can start this week.

I wanted to ask how much weight people had lost (I'm on the ap so can't see stats) as the woman in the book I am reading started off at 9 stone and admits she goes to the gym. I am not 9 stone, I'm 13stone 11, and I don't use the gym so I wondered how realistic weight loss on this diet is for someone who weighs more.

Also if any of you have a success story please share as I believe this will increase my motivation to do it. I know no one on this diet so I don't have that 'so and so lost loads on this plan so I feel inspired to do it' feeling.

Thank you x

I started it last wednesday, only done one fast day as until kids go back to school and I'm at work being kept busy i am only doing 1day x i weighed this morning and in 5 days I've lost 4lb :)

Ive kept my calories to 1300/1600 though to help snd ive not done any exercise either .

I have Michael moseys book as well as the woman's one about 5:2 and using the free iPhone app myfitnesspal

I reckon if you do it you will be surprised :) xx good luck xx

Wow that's really good. I'm aiming to eat 1400-1600 a day and the 500 on the fasting days.
I'm looking forward to doing it as I know my will power will be tested massively (I have very little willpower) and I'm really hoping to see results.

Do you have a 5:2 diary? What did you eat on your fast day?xx

I've been doing this for just over a month and I have been loosing 300g (.66lbs) a week and eating on ave 1600/1700 a week but some days were very high kcals wise, meals out etc

I suppose if I ate lower during the week and did a bit more exercise I would have better losses :)

The fast days are Ok, what I find hard to cooking dinner and wanting to eat it - I try to cook stuff I'm not that into when fasting ;)

I need to plan my fast day tomorrow. Was thinking porridge for breakfast and soup with a slice of bread, or smoked haddock and veg for tea.
I know I shouldn't have coke (diet) due to the sweetener but I think that will help keep me feeling full, that as well as green tea and no added sugar squash x

I've read that it is easier to fast if you keep your carbs lower - less processed carbs, bread, potatoes rice etc but plenty salad and veg, plus Protein to keep you going
Soup I think is great ! Hot and filling on cold days :) and low in kcals

Do you use myfitnesspal.com or phone app ? To track what you have eaten?

I have a boiled egg in the morning, low fat soup @ lunch & slim pasta, mushrooms & 3 laughing cow triangles for dinner.

The slim pasta is really nice, I thought it was going to be awful but it's ok!

I also have some strawberries in between meals to keep me going.

If u don't want to drink diet coke maybe try sparkling water to fill up on. I haven't tried it yet but will do tomorrow.

Best of luck

I have just got the ap today so I can start tomorrow.
What is slim pasta?
I'm thinking I need to make homemade soup so it can be less calories.
I really dislike fizzy water. I have no idea why, maybe I should add some sugar free juice to it x

Hope all goes well and you find something you are comfortable with x good luck! X

First fast day today. Had 234 cals so far, 2 belvitas for breakfast and a cuppa soup with a slice of bread for lunch.
I'm hungry, does anyone else get the sick/hungry feeling?x

Yes, water water water :). One day I drank almost 5L it recon I must have been very thirsty - as it was going down easy lol

I have gone over- ended on 553 calories. The sicky/hunger feeling was hard to deal with. I'm either going to have to nibble throughout the day eg a belvita biscuit, cuppa soup, another biscuit then something for tea or divide it between 2 meals x

That's a good 1st fast - well done :)

I break it up into 3 small meals and a small snack!

Yeah I think that's what I'm going to have to do. I know the book recommends you eat at 7 then 7pm but I can't. Maybe as I go on I may be able to but not yet x

The first day i tried fast by 4pm i felt sick dizzy and yucky from not eating and i couldn't get food out of my head lol decided half term and quiet day wasn't best day to try first time so waiting now till kids bck at school and im at work to distract me :) how are you feeling now hun? X

Well done for sticking to such s low amount, its a good number for first time :) eventually i imagine it will get easier :) x

Well done. That is still a successful fasting day in my book, especially when you don't feel well. I usually miss breakfast then have a small lunch and a bigger evening meal as that seems to suit me best. Everyone is different though, but you'll soon find what suits you best. I'm not actually doing the 5:2, but JUDDD/Intemittent fasting, but the basic principles are similar.

I know someone on the forum finds that belvita biscuits give them terrible cravings - can't remember who, but might be worth bearing in mind if you find they do affect you too?
