Hiya!
This is my first post :), i've been lurking whilst waiting for my account to be validated and have been itching to get on board! I've never done SW before, only WW but its just not working for me at the moment. I gave up smoking last year and have put on a stone since so i'm now 15st 4lbs god help me!
Just wondering, does anyone have any experience of doing the 5:2 Intermittent Fasting diet and following SW principles on the feast days?
Anyway, looking forward to getting to know you all!

Hey hun

Welcome to the forum and SW :)
You'll find lots of friendly support here to help you along the way.
I've not tried the 5:2 myself but I have heard of people doing it on here so I'm sure someone will let you know :) xxx

Thanks! I'm loving SW so far but read up about the health benefits of 5:2 so thought I'd try and mix the two! Xxx

I personally don't see how you can mix sw with such an extreme diet like 5:2
Sw is just basic healthy eating.
But I've never done 5:2 but I'm not convinced mixing will work I say pick one and give it your all.

Hi, I've done SW and 5:2 and I would suggest that it's quite a good idea to combine the two. There can be a tendency to overdo things on the feed days so following SW principles will counter that. Keep us posted as to how you get on. Here's the link to the 5:2 section of Minimins and a link to a specific 5:2 diet forum:

5:2 Fasting

We aren't allowed to share lists of free foods or healthy extras on this forum as its against the rules. To get an idea of the basics however you can check out the sticky thread at the top of this main forum, its called advice for newcomers including extra easy. Good luck and get to group ASAP to get the books and new starters talk x

I think if I was to do 5:2 for just health reasons then I wouldn't need to worry but because its for weight loss too I need to reign it in a bit or ill go mental on my feast days lol.
Thanks for the link, I shall have a look :)

Hi tenaciousnat, as of today I'm combining SW and 5:2. I find the fast days relatively easy but the feed days are tricky as I go well over the top. I've read that you should eat 'normally' on your feed days but quite frankly eating normally was what got me to obese in the first place! Elsewhere it says eat to your TDEE (total daily energy expenditure). For me that is 1400-1600 cals depending on what online BMR calculator you use. In a typical day on SW I've calculated I eat 1400 -1700 cals so I should see results combining the two. Wish me luck!

Exactly the same honey! My normal day is not normal at all! I'm fasting again tomorrow and have stuck to SW 100% this week. Mondays weigh in will be very interesting indeed! Xxx

How is the fasting going tenaciousnat? I've been fasting today and have eaten 390 cals (400 is a quarter of my recommended intake). I've planned what I'm eating for my next few feast days and it involves masses of superfree. I'll only be snacking on fruit and keeping the syns really low(or non existent) as I really need a good loss this week to give me a boost. Do you go to a SW group? I went back to mine on Wednesday fter a few months away and I found I'd put on 8lbs - whhooops, mortifying!

Hiya,

I'm fasting today. So far I've had lemon and water and a black coffee. I did go off the rails last night though with some wine so glad I'm fasting too.
I'm planning on not eating at all until I get home but we'll see how the day pans out lol xxx

Oooooooh Im at 260 calories now. I'm allowed 500 in a day when fasting but try and keep it for a meal. However I really needed some lunch so had two ryvita thins, some philly and some grapes. I should still have cals left for stir fry veg later though.

How you getting on with doing the 5:2 and sw on the 5 days?

Hi. Im about to start my 3rd week on 5:2 but unfortunately on my feast days I go well overboard so end up gaining weight. This week I thought I would try following sw or even ww on feast days. How are you getting on combining sw and 5:2?

Hi Flipsangel. Yes I know the feeing well - in the first couple of months of 5:2 I gained as I was gorging myself on feed days lol. I've lost 6.5lbs in a fortnight now though from tracking my calorie intake using My Fitness Pal online. I was intending to do SW but I find just counting calories is easier for me.I don't have the same cals every day though, I vary them to keep my body guessing - one splurge day, three fast days and three days of eating my TDEE (total daily energy expenditure). I'm happy to say it's really working for me now.

Hi Krupskaya, Thanks for the reply. Was beginning to feel like the odd one out eating soo much on feed days as I have read so many posts from people saying they don't feel the need to over eat or are not very hungry after a fast day. I usually wake up starving after a fast day and really don't stop eating until the next fast :( Am determined to break this cycle this week. Fingers crossed. 6.5lbs loss in 2 weeks is brilliant. Well done.

Hi everyone, I have a little experience in Intermittent Fasting (IF) that I'm happy to share.
Last September I got back from holiday and was complaining to my Dad how fat I was feeling and he told me that everyone at his work were raving on about a 5:2 diet. I checked it out, did my research by watching the documentary and googled the hell out of it.
The concept seemed so easy and with so many positives! So I created my very own system where I would instead reduce my calorie intake to 1200 a day and only eat between the hours of 2pm and 8pm. I chose those times to suit me and the rest of the time I would fast.

I've got to say after the first 3 days I no longer felt hungry and the weight dropped off of me. I went from 13st (late sep) to 11st9lb (late nov).

I stupidly took my foot off the accelerator and went back to 12st2lb. I must add that the weight loss I achieved was purely without any sort of exercise because I was injured and in need of surgery on my hips so really couldn't do anything.

IF is a transforming way of eating. I'm now on crutches after my surgery and still in the position of wanting to loose weight so I'm doing a mix of exante whilst on IF to get me down to where I was again. My target is 10st. I'm on day 5 and so far so good.

Hey guys can I join please .

I'm starting the 5:2 with tues/sat being my fast days ! I'm at 8st 12 now and want to maintain and any loss will be a bonus !

I'm interested to see what calories you eat on feast days or what kind of meals you eat... What's the kind of normal amount of calories to consume on feast days ?? I will have zero problems with fast days being a previous yo yo dieter this will be easy for me i think lol!!!!
