My VLCD/5:2 Experiment

Hi all. I love 5:2 and have found it's a great way for me to maintain weight, but I don't seem to lose anything. I'm pretty sure that's mostly down to my eating habits during non-fast days rather than the diet though! So I'm going to try a mix of vlcd and 5:2. I'm going to do vlcd for a week (currently on day 2), then do a week of 4:3, then two weeks of 5:2, then do it all over again! My aim is to lose 7lbs every 4 weeks. I'm currently 20st 2lb (horrific, the biggest I've ever been :-( ) so I have lots to lose and I'm in it for the long haul! I'll keep you all up to date with my progress. Any support greatly appreciated!

Hello! Here to subscribe :)

Sounds like a good plan! Don't think I could ever do VLCDs tho, even for a week at time. Admire anyone with the will power to do it!

Good luck.

Hi Juju, your plan sounds quite complicated to me. From what I've read about the 5:2 diet, is that it's really a plan for maintaining weight rather than losing weight

Did'nt get to finish my reply off. I have started juddd, which is alternate day fasting. You can eat 20% of your normal calorie intakes on the fast days, which should see a bigger weight loss. The higher % you increase it to, the lower the weight loss. You don't calorie count on your non fast days, only on your fast days.

I've just started this, and yet to see a loss yet, as still maintaining, but hopefully will see something soon, as I've been having more than 20% whilst I am getting used to this in my first week. It's getting easier though, and I look forward to my non fast days.

Thanks, I'll let you know how I get on. Have tried JUDDD before and found it difficult to do and have a life!

So, I'm nearly half way through my vlcd week. The first few days were hard going but it's been much easier today. Really hoping I will be able to maintain a good amount of what I lose this week with 5:2 - we shall see!

Yay, glad it's getting easier - though must still be a relief when it's over!! Any idea what you've lost so far? Or are you not a compulsive scale hopper like me, lol :)

5lbs as of this morning. I'm hoping for a little over 7lbs so I have a bit more rebound room when I come off it. Ketosis has kicked in so the worst is over. I'm a scale obsessive to the core!!

Interesting. Looking forward to see how it goes for you. I am doing a vlcd at the mo and hoping to do 5:2 to maintain.
goodluck :)

Well, 2 days to go on my vlcd week. It definitely hasn't been easy and it has felt like the longest week of my life! As of this morning I've lost 7lbs, so now everything I lose in the next two days is rebound weight!

Yeah I bet it has! Hope you can sense the sympathy & admiration I'm sending your way :)

Woop woop, 7lb in 5 days is super going
Let's hope a couple more follow their way ;) X

One week of VLCD done. I won't lie - it was a real struggle. I just had a piece of toast though and it was the nicest thing I've ever put in my mouth!! I have lost 9lbs this week and hope to keep at least 7lbs of it off after 3 weeks of intermittent fasting.
So now I move on to the fasting part, so this week I'm going to do 4:3. I'm going to have Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday as my Fast days. I'm going to try very hard not to get on the scales after non-fast days - although I know it will be a challenge! My weigh-in will be on Friday morning so let's hope I don't put it all back on in a week!!

I'm not sure exactly, about 600 I think. I have 3 slim and save packs, and then some chicken and veg in the evening.

Just an update. Having lost 9lbs on my vlcd week I've kept 7lbs of it off which was my aim. Just over a week left of 5:2ing and then I'm back on vlcd! Oh good ......
