New to 5:2

Hi everyone. I am new to all this. Have done nearly every diet going so decided to give this a shot. Today is my first fast day. Saving almost all my calories for my evening meal as I am one of those that when they start eating they can't stop ;)

Feeling kind of shaky though and had heart palpitations? ? Normal? I do suffer with anxiety and panic attacks so I am connecting the two.

Hit the 500 cals bang on. Chicken, potatoes, carrots and vegetable soup for tea. Had a cup of bovril earlier to keep me going.

Any tips and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hey, well done on starting your journey on 5:2! I'm a new starter too, first fasting day tomorrow, I'll subscribe to your posts and hopefully we can motivate each other :)

Thanks. It will be nice to have someone to do this with.

Really enjoying my breakfast this morning. I thought I would be starving but I am not too bad. Been for a walk so only just having breakfast.

My tdee is apparently 2600 calories and that is what I should be aiming for on none fast days. Seems a bit high to me.

I'm actually looking forward to starting my fast day tomorrow! I will try and count approximate calories on my non-fast days, my TDEE is about 1800 so as long as I'm below that it should be fine. That seems quite a lot to me as I'm used to trying to eat 1200-1400 daily. MFP will be my life saver!

I am on mfp if you want to add me :) or I can add you.

I suppose we have to keep our body shocked by eating more on normal days otherwise we could go into starvation mode. I really enjoyed my fast - I had a sports bottle of water beside me with lemon, lime and ginger in. Really refreshing.

Hi Rach!

I'm doing a kind of 5:2 combo with SW. Decided to take this approach as tried fasting last year but seemed to maintain rather than lose, as I just had no structure on non-fast days & ate too much / the wrong things! Ooops.... Will be interested to see how you get on. Good luck!

I've never heard of unislim, is it something you've already done before?

I started in the new year. I've generally lost every week, except one huge gain when I ate out for an entire week!

Second fast tomorrow. Actually looking forward to it. Just having a final feed of a slice of wholemeal bread with peanut butter and jam. Pleased to say i haven't eaten until I have felt completely stuffed.

Food tomorrow is noodles, courgette, mushrooms, peppers, onions, tomatoes and prawns with a bit of chilli sauce. That will be tomorrows evening meal. Will have oxo or bovril drink during the day along with water and coffee and herbal tea. :D

Hi Rach those heart palpitations sound a bit of a worry, if it is anxiety then 5:2 might be for you. Because it works with a simple weekly rhythm, and does not rely on a whole lot of carbo, caleric, fat, protien counting and measurement, you don't have to get caught up in a whole lot of fussy details and worry. But more importantly, fasting calms the mind and emotions as well as appetite. Personally I don't worry about the 500 cal on fast days I usually drink green tea and a couple of coffees sweetened with honey getting by with a lot less than 500 cal. And like a lot of people doing this I look forward to the fast days, so all the best love.

Thank you. I think it probably is just the anxiety. I have had them on and off for years Hadnt really had them lately until the afternoon of the day I fasted. But have had them the odd time since. It could also be due to the fact I am reducing one of my tablets. Will see how i get on and if I feel unhappy will see the doctor.

Someone else also told me her panic attacks were reduced doing this woe. Hoping it will be same for me and I will eventually get off all my medication. Fingers crossed :) thanks again for commenting, lovely to hear from others. X

Thank you :)

Fasting tomorrow and Friday this week. Just had a high protein snack of cottage cheese, then banana and peanut butter warmed up. Hoping it will help me to not feel so hungry in the morning like I did Friday.

Food for tomorrow is stir fried courgette, broccoli, onion, mushrooms, peppers and seafood sticks. Have beetroot and goats cheese for a snack if I get really hungry. Also an oxo drink!!

All going well so far today. Just had a pot of jelly and have a bovril beside me. looking forward to my tea now.

I think the bananas and peanut butter actually helped me to not feel so hungry this morning. So from now on that will be my pre-fast snack.
