I'm doing Paul McKenna's system at the moment and it's been very successful for me so far, with a couple of stone lost. I started with just the CDs, and got the book a couple of weeks ago. I feel like it's a lot more sustainable than when I've tried to lose weight in the past

Hi im just re-starting it again today although i have to say i tried to stick to it over xmas and managed to not put a single pound on and usually i put around a stone on over xmas (!!!) so i was pleased with that.

Its definatly a life style change rather than a diet..infact its not actually called a diet its an 'eating plan' and the fact that theres no forbidden foods has completly changed my attitude towards food.

Would you like to keep each other updated on how were doing? Let me know as if so i will make sure i keep a check on here!

Thanks for your replies everyone!! 1 day down and 89 to go! The "eating plan" is very easy, but also makes me nervous as I hope im not eating too much. I suppose if i continue to do what the book says then we will have to wait and see. The whole idea of eating when you are hungry and not depriving oneself of any foods apeals to me as I think this area is where my issues with food start. Look forward to hearing from you all and all the best with your new lifestyle plan

I tried Paul McKenna last year but only lost 4lbs before I got stuck on no change at all for 4 weeks. I found it a bit difficult to tune into myself and despite my efforts, it was upsetting to keep failing.

It doesn't mean it doesn't work, it just didn't suit me and my circumstances in the fact that I was still putting junk in my body even though it was less and to be honest, while I think he is good and affective, I did find a couple of things he said very off which annoyed me slightly.

But he apparently has a 71% success rate so it is worth a shot to see if it's right for you. If not, there are always other things to try.
This duckling is going to be a swan.....

1st short term goal to lose 7lbs: Achieved 05/02/10
2nd short term goal to lose 1 stone total: Achieved 26/02/10
3rd short term goal to lose 10%: Achieved 16/04/10
4th short term goal to get out of the 200s: Achieved 18/06/10

My next short term goal: To get to my old nutracheck weight of 12st 9lb! 7lbs to go!

Hi well done on getting your first day complete! It does honestly get easier but dont expect to just start it and never make any mistakes, its probably something that takes a little while to get going, as initially youll probably wat to eat all the things that have been banned for so long, I know I did! But after a while you learn that these donít actually taste that good and your taste will start to change and thatís when you will probably start to lose most weight. I think im just on the brink of that happening now. It is possible yo u may even pu a little bit on when you first start so donít woory if you do, thatís one of the reasons why you should not weigh for a while when you start as its demotivating.
Keep me updated! I have to admit I have a bit of a binge last night when eating when im not hungry failed and I consumed half a pack of biscuits but Paul Mckenna says to expect this and just carry on following the rules straight away which I have done and now im not having the guilty day where I try to starve myself to make up like I used to!

I totally get what suse is saying about your tastes changing. I actually feel I'm appreciating food a lot more now. If something doesn't taste really really good, then I'm not seeing the point in eating it. I've recently eaten cucumber and kidney beans, two things I've always hated eating. I got so freaked out yet delighted about five days after I started the system, wandering around the bakery bit in Tesco and feeling not the slightest interest in anything in front of me.

Incidentally, I'm just back from a fortnight's holiday in America and the system really helped out for me there I think. Last time I went, I put on a stone and a half in ten days, but this time I managed to control my eating without feeling like I was missing out in the slightest. Also had a private pool that I was in everyday while family stuffed with doughnuts despite not having been seen in a swimsuit since compulsory lessons in school! Hooray for motivation to exercise. Weigh in tomorrow morning, fingers crossed.

Today's been a bit tough as I am PMSing something awful and wanting chocolate, but I've managed to completely hold off so far even though my mum offered to bake me a cake (bless! I'm trying to get her started on McKenna too!). I feel though, on the occasional times where I have stopped eating consciously, that it's not the end of the world, that this is just something I have to practice and once I get the hang of it I'll be able to eat better forever. I'm doing alright at eating when I'm hungry, though I've found that's not always the easiest thing to do to fit in with the rest of the family. Stopping when I'm full is ok, and once you "resign from the clean plate club" it gets so much easier. Eating what I want is definitely going well. Eating consciously is probably the weakest, but as I say, I feel it takes practice. I've slowed down a lot. We each had a slice of cheesecake last week that my dad had finished before I'd even downed a spoonful! (and I then left a third of it). Need to think about what I'm eating more though, but it's getting better.

I love not having any forbidden foods. In the past, I've always known that diets are a finite thing because I know I couldn't go without my curries or baking or ben and jerry's sundaes forever. This, however, I feel like there's never going to be anything stopping me from going on with it, and with as much weight to lose as I have, that's a real confidence booster.

Hey Suse, thanks for your replies! Well yesterday went well. I have to really slow my eating down, chew plenty so i dont just shovel it in as per usual! I am definetly not obsessing with food like i would be if on a diet, so thats a bonus. Also i am alot more motivated and less depressed you could say! not dwelling about not acheveing my goals and the guilt of eating wrong foods. I did read in the book that i am on my journey of changing lifelong habits and association with food,so im guessing that cant happen overnight and to take each day slowly. Reprogramming is what we are doing and all we have to do is follow the basic instructions of eating when we are hungry, listen to the cd etc! Then the required results follow! Lets keep going!! 87days to go in the 90day journal!

HI Calamity! cant wait to see how your weigh-in went! You sound excited ! Less stress isn't it! I almost feel like it is the best answer as my relationship with food is not such a major focus, due to the fact i can eat what i want too!

Hey hows everyone getting on? I had a bit of a bad do last night went out for a meal and wasnt actually that hungry, but ordered something all the same and then ate nearly the lot, totally unconsciously and with 2 glasses of red wine! OOPS! and im out tomorrow night on a boozy do with a meal, im going to have to really try hard to be conscious about it. i got on the scales this morning and ive put 3 pounds on this week! gutted. Still im positive about the changes im seeing mentally with my relationship to food and exercise so im sticking to it! im aware it will take time and im willing to guive it plenty :-)

By the sounds of it, it seems we're all feeling it takes a little bit of practice . Just like riding a bike I guess, once we're all reprogrammed it will be no bother, and we'll all be slim and gorgeous forever, huzzah!

Weigh in was yesterday and I've lost another four pounds, meaning I'm exactly four stone lighter than when I started. Delighted with that, particularly as time of the month usually makes me retain a few pounds in water.

Friend came over last night and we got a Chinese takeaway with our normal order. We barely made a dent in it, had it for brunch today and I've still got an entire carton of chow mein left over for tomorrow's lunch! Also got the verdict that my frame appears to have shrunk - it's nice to get support like that!

That's one thing I really love about the system, that I don't feel awkward eating in social situations at all. It's easy to say "No thanks, I don't feel hungry" and I can do all my usual social things without angsting over how many points or calories I'm eating, completely mucking up my diet, or feeling guilty. So don't get worked up suse!
I had a bad day over the holidays as well where I had was stuck in an unfamiliar place waiting for a very late lift and nobody was answering a phone. When I got home, I went straight for the slice of 7-layer chocolate cake I knew was around and stuffed it down much like I used to, even though I knew full well it was emotional hunger. Still, I dusted myself off and told myself one lapse wasn't the end of the world and got right back on the system with my dinner that night.

I've also noted I'm drinking a lot more water this week which I'm quite pleased with. Hopefully that will help a bit, it does seem to be making me fuller actually. Eating slowly and consciously seems to be going better now I'm back in a home situation. I took absolutely forever over dinner tonight and left a good part of it. It was a stuffed chicken recipe that we have reasonably often, but I swear it tasted much better tonight, so perhaps paying more attention really does change things!
