Started and hope this time it will work....

Need to loose 45 pounds to get IVF in 2 month. Overweight since forever and tried different things. I don't eat loads for the last couple of years staying at circa 1600 cal per day. Drink my teas and coffees without sugar for the last 15 years. My main problems are very low levels of physical activity with long overtimes at work and evening bulging (most of those 1600 were eaten in the evening).Tried dieting before - usually lose circa 6 pounds and then it all stops, joined Slimming world - no effect whatever. So, here we are trying Atkins...

First observations: craving fruits (cherries and strawberries season) and coffee most of all...Getting out loads of water running to the loo every hour but really constipated...Weight loss after 5 days - 2 pounds? Realized some of the meats did contain more carbs than I thought. So most of the days now end up with chicken somehow and get bored When should I expect weight getting off? Thank you.

Hi, I've only just started the Atkins diet, too. Keep at it, ask for advice, have a look at the food diaries and look at the recipes.

I've only been on this board today and already received good advice.

Thanks and good luck to you too! It's was my first post to the board too. My husband is pushing me to buy a treadmill to start with some easy walks. I know hard exercise is not recommended on Atkins but still think I need to get some extra calorie burning...So hopefully my progress will improve... Really need it this time...

Walking is fine on Atkins - in fact hard exercise is fine after the first couple of weeks once you're adapted to fat burning. But exercise is likely to help more with toning than actual loss.

If you've just moved from another diet to Atkins then you won't get the first week's big loss as you'll already have lost your water weight. Average weight loss on Atkins is 2lbs per week - the same as any non vlcd diet.

Try rhubarb if you're craving fruit, and take a look at the Atkins questions answered thread.

Why not post your daily menus so people can give you tips?

Some weeks you may lose more and some less, it can also depend how much you have to lose - 2lbs is just the average. I'm maintaining right now but in my loss phase some weeks I'd lose 1lb and occasionally I'd lose 5lb. Weight loss is never linear but it's definitely worth sticking with.

Hurrah! Another 2lb gone by today, looks like it's working so far. Also had to go to Turkish place today with friends, and it's so convenient with this diet - got myself some chicken shish, halloumi cheese, salad and still on a diet

Gained almost a pound back apparently overdid with cheese, somehow I missed that the amount is limited to 3-4 ounces per day and had to reread the book...

It's probably just a little water gain - our weight can fluctuate quite a lot on an average day, especially on this heat when most of us retain water. Try upping how much you drink.

Thanks, might be, though I drink a lot recently 1.5 ltr minimum.

Got another 2 problems: had a really bad acid reflux attack overnight so I took some gaviscone (contains aspartame etc) and now afraid I am out of ketosis. Another problem - my husband found atkins exposed website and now he is eating my brains out that I want everything the easy way and that diets will lead me to the grave and that the only way to loose weight is spending hours in the gym... Really brings any motivation down

Aspartame is an artificial sweetener and won't take you out of ketosis.

There's a lot of false info around about the diet. It doesn't raise cholesterol - it usually lowers it - and it's really a very healthy way to eat. Natural fats, meat and vegetables, all unprocessed. That's the diet humans were designed to eat.

4 days break in Paris in the hotel with the best dessert buffet ever and...I resisted the temptation despite my husband eating all those tasty cakes in front of me! Though after 4 days of extensive walking under 30 degrees heat I expected to loose more than 1.5 pounds. Well, you can't control all the carbs while eating out though: tried to order mostly salmon and grilled meat but with sauces etc it's difficult...

Well done on the temptation, and the exercise. 1.5 is still a good loss, certainly better than a gain. :-)

Well done on resisting all those yummy desserts!!!

Have you tried garlic butter on the grilled meats? It works for me when everyone around me is having sauces, or have a creamy sauce if you can get over to them you must have no added sugar.

I am not very comfortable with asking what they have in the sauce in the restaurant, really self-conscious like they will think "why this cow even bothers with that - one calorie more or less"...Know it's stupid but ....
