Carbs are Evil
Hi, I thought I would introduce myself, started on atkins induction today and really really need to stick to this, this time. I am very unhappy with the way I look and after having 2 children the weight is creeping up and up with comfort eating etc. I am guilty or serial dieting but atkins has always been the one that worked for me initially, it's the phase 2 I need to master. I look forward to speaking with you all and here's to a slimmer me :D

I've also started on Atkins induction today having never really done it before. I'm like you a serial dieter, mainly sliming world green days which I never really had an awful lot of success on long term and I think it's down to the carbohydrates.
At the beginning of the year I started calorie counting and lost 9 lb in one week spending my calories on mostly veg and meat, cutting out pasta, bread and potatoes. The following week I introduced them back into my plan and gained 4 pounds!.
I've been reading up on Atkins for the last 2 weeks. Last week I bought the new book, did an Atkins shop and bought ketostix.
It's all new to me. I'm looking forward to it though. ?

Yay let's do this! I lost a lot on atkins previously and you don't feel hungry once you get past the first few days so stick with it! Carb withdrawal headaches and all :)

How did your first day go? I woke up with a thumping headache in the night don't know if that was the start of the dreaded carb flu or just a coincidence.

I didn't manage breakfast yesterday only a few creamy coffees and lots of water. Lunch was tuna chunks and lettuce with mayonnaise and tea was 2 black farmer low carb pork sausages 2 small pork steaks, green beans, curly kale and mushrooms the meat fried up in olive oil and the veg done with black pepper and butter and it was gorgeous. I managed to drink over 3 litres of water that's not including my coffees and diet lemonade had had 2 small packets of pork scratchings for a snack later.
I'm gonna do a ketone test in the morning to see how it's going. Don't feel any different today other than feeling very thirsty and not feeling hungry at all so breakfast and lunch today has been bypassed so far. Hope your first day went ok xx

Had a good first day and my headache started just as I was going to bed last night so think it is probably the carb withdrawal. Feeling quite hungry today but been filling up on boiled eggs when I've felt it and trying to keep up the water intake :)
It usually takes 3-5 days for the ketosis to kick in so if it doesn't show up yet stick with it! I've just gone out and got some meat and bits to put with salad and veg for the next couple of days but need to find some nice recipes on here I think. Hope your day is going well :D x

Second day went without a problem. Tend to get an headache right after I've eaten tea, so don't know what that's all about.
Breakfast: nothing apart from creamy coffees, water and diet lemonade.
Lunch: again nothing apart from more of the above.
Tea: roast chicken with 400g broccolli, 60g cheese and chopped up pork sausage.

I didn't want such a big portion of broccoli but was struggling to get my foundation carbs upto 12-14g. I was absolutely stuffed but made myself eat it because I had not had anything else all day.

Did a ketone test this morning and I'm 3 shades pink into ketosis so well on my way :)

Hope you had a good day xx

Oo dinner sounds nice, I struggle to hit my carb intake so I add in things like red pepper that have a bit higher carb content. I've had a mild headache all day but like you tends to get worse in the evening. Hopefully we'll both be in ketosis soon! x

Welcome all:)

Day 3 (yesterday) done and dusted with no problems :)

Breakfast: chopped boiled egg with butter and pepper.
Lunch: nothing, still full up from breakfast.
Tea: chilli mince with cheese and sour cream, lettuce, cucumber and rocket.
Snacks; 2 small packets of pork scratchings.

Drank loads of water and diet lemonade and diet Pepsi. No headache after tea either. Husband commented that my face looks slimmer and I certainly feel more energetic. Not gave bread, potatoes or pasta a second thought although did fancy something sweet so I'm buying some pots of sugar free jelly, they should do the trick with a nice dollop of fresh cream.

What's not to love about this plan??!!! Have a brill Thursday :) xx

any life out there .... need a question answering , with cheese , can you have English cheddar ?

You can have lots of different cheese, cheddar being one of them. :) if you have a look on the Atkins website there's a list of allowed food for each phase.

Day 4 went really well. Ive actually felt energised and full of life today. No headaches, no feeling dizzy, sick or knackered. Mood lifted and stable instead of up and down. Still 3rd pink ketosis too. This is the best I've felt in ages and my appetite is not raging either :)
Breakfast: chopped boiled eggs with butter and black pepper. Lunch: nothing (still stuffed) Tea: beef and chicken stew with 70g mushrooms, 160g wilted buttered spinach and 300g cabbage. Had loads of water today, plus diet Pepsi, diet lemonade and a few coffees with cream in. Wish I had started this plan years and years ago - I feel so good and well on it and it's only day 4. No cravings and the carb-flu came and went with no problem. :)

All sounds good:). Please be careful with the diet drinks - track how many and see if you can cut down. They are a notorious staller........

I think this plan is all about tweaking it and customising it to what works for you, that what I like about it, it's flexible. In the new book it says diet Pepsi etc is fine to have has part of the fluid you drink. I'm only having about 4 glasses at the very most anyway, and that's not everyday :)

I didn't get on here yesterday, but glad you are doing well! My hunger has subsided, still feeling the lack of energy though so not quite in ketosis. Here's to day 5 :D
