    Induction phase

    Hi
I started atkins a couple of days ago but i'm a little confused, do the uk carbs already have the fibre deducted or do i deduct the fibre to get the net carbs?
    Thanks

I was wondering the exact same thing!

Also does anyone know which carb amount i should be looking at the carbs or the "of which sugars" bit?

    Thanks in advance.

Yep - in the uk fibre already deducted so use total carbs number.
If you are using MFP then make sure you get a uk version of item (so pick Tesco or something) giveaway is cups - those are US ones!

Ohh, I'm glad you posted that. It hadn't occurred to me that the numbers could be off if I add something on MFP that a UK user has entered in. I try to find the exact brand when I can but sometimes I'm lazy and just add the generic versions. Thanks for the tip, I will watch more carefully from now on!

I've read here and there online that the Atkins way of calculating 'net carbs' in their manufactured products might not be as accurate or honest as they'd like us to believe. What do others think about this? For example Atkins shakes and Advantage bars are marketed as 'okay' for all phases of Atkins but they seem to stall or slow my losses. And even slow-down my getting into ketosis during Induction. This is very frustrating as not everyone is badly affected. I seem to be - and cheese also seems to slow me down so I have to limit it to much less than 4 oz each day.

Hi serialslimmer. When I was deciding whether to try Atkins I came across multiple posts where people said the Atkins products have stalled them. That was a big red flag to me and I decided not to touch them. I'm following the 2002 book rather than the newest one, but I know people have been successful with all versions of the diet. I had a great first two weeks and then stalled for several days. I haven't been going overboard with cheese most days but I'm thinking maybe I ought to cut it out entirely for a while just to see what happens. It seems everyone responds a bit differently so trial and error appears to be the best method sometimes! Good luck to you!

Atkins bars - dreadful things except when used in an emergency to avoid the real junk!

Cheese does seem to stall people but i think it's probably just too easy to overindulge. Altho atkins said dont count calories that doesnt mean calories dont count! A benefit of low carb eating is your appetite goes down - but if eat a ton of cheese (or nuts for that matter) then can slow the losses. Key is to eat to satisfy appetite not tastebuds

I've always had to keep an eye on the calories, too. One mistake I used to make was to also try to keep fats 'moderate (in reality 'low'!)'. Atkins is high fat, medium protein, low carb - but the seasoned dieter has spent years, perhaps decades, 'avoiding' fats. It's sort of ingrained! And it's far from easy to suddenly and without guilt consume lots of The Auld Enemy. Which, as it turns out, is a real friend.

I found that I lost more by increasing my fat intake. It's true, folks! I am vegetarian so for me this means adding butter to vegetables, cream to sauces, mayo (yum!) to boiled eggs, etc. Cutting back on fats, as I understand one is asked to do on Dukan, can all too often slow weight loss, rather than speeding it up. Increasing fat intake, I found, also helped ease hunger during induction.

The Atkins bars I view with suspicion. I once loved them, and ate at least one every day. I still love the Endulge caramel mousse bar (delicious) but seldom buy them. I think bars are fine for an occasional treat or a wobbly moment but not the best idea for every day consumption!
