The last few days I have been thinking about what has made me put on so much weight - yes I know it's eating :p, but I wanted to find out why.

I was a chubby teenager until the age of 15 when I lost all the pounds (didn't go on a diet, somehow just happened). I had two babies in my mid twenties and still fit into my 10/12 clothes no problem. I had my youngest child in my early 30s and was still ok after that. Hubby's job required us to move back to UK in 2007 and that's when the weight gain began. Slowly, but surely, all the way up to a size 14/16. I know to some it might sound pathetic to whinge about a size 16 clothes size, but it made a big difference to me. With the weight gain I became more and more unfit, a proper vicious circle, not helped by my diagnosis of fibromyalgia, taking a load of meds to continue to function.
Whenever the pain get really bad, may it be physically or psychologically, I crawl into bed or onto the sofa with some lovely food as a comforting companion.
I honestly believe I do some kind of self-medicating with food. This will be extremely hard to snap out off, but thankfully SW has the fab advantage that I can eat fruit till it comes out of my ears, so I have swapped the chocolate with fruit and it works really well for me - definitely psychologically, physically remains to be seen at WI tomorrow.
Maybe the recognition and acceptance of this will help me to stick to SW this time (unlike two years ago).

I have ME/CFS and do exactly the same thing when my pain/fatigue is bad.. just in need of sugar all of the time as I am so tired to function! I am on slimming world and try to work round it the best I can but it is a hard rut to get out of and so I try to fill up on loads of fruit and veg etc. Or do treat foods I like so I don't feel deprived!! I ate really healthily when well it is completely bazaar but started to comfort eat. I have been at target nearly 5 months but was out two weeks ago by a pound and missed this weeks weigh in as was on holiday so fingers crossed!! I know I can get it off though :) just slightly upsetting this will be my break or make week ;) it took me 2 years to loose 2.5 pounds :) but I love my group there all so funny and our consultant is just fantastic!!!

Hello! Just thought I'd say hi, as I've got ME/CFS too, I've actually "met" a few people on here who have it. :) xx

You two really are an inspiration that a great and lasting weightloss/maintenance can be achieved despite of health throwbacks. I have started swapping unhealthy comfort foods with sweet fruit, especially cherries and strawberries, does the trick for me. My GP and I agreed on a different meds regime, too. I hope that will continue to stabilize my situation. I am convinced that the Duloxetine I have been on, did not help my weightloss or cravings, nor did it really help my mood or pain. Back on Fluoxetine and NSAID's now and feeling a lot better. Hopeful again xx

Good luck, hon. :) A consultant once told me he thought I'd got fibromyalgia too, and I've now got osteoarthritis in my knees and, to cap it all off, been diagnosed with gallstones - I'm basically a wreck, lol. So yes, it's definitely possible to shift a lot of weight despite health problems, and without exercise. Keep up the good work! :) xx

Thanks for your kind words xx
In the past I've been really active, even went mountain walking at least once a year, now I'm happy to make it up the stairs to our second floor on a bad day. Moderate physical activity has got the tendency to give me a bit of relief, so I took up Nordic Walking again (you know, the faster pace walking with two "skiing" poles), I try to do it once a week, but won't put myself under pressure if I cannot.
Gallstones are AWFUL! I had them, too and my gallbladder was removed more than ten years ago. See, not only am I a wreck, I am a half empty wreck :D

Lol, I'm hoping I can get my gallbladder whipped out too - at least it might help a little! Have you had any problems as a result of having it removed? :) xx

I was uncomfortable for about a week after the removal, kind of normal, I suppose. For years it has been absolutely excellent - no pain, no indigestion, just have to be careful not to eat food that's too fatty/oily, but that's not an issue at all. Only recently have I started having pain again and the docs believe there may be a gallstone stuck in the remaining bile duct. It's being investigated. If I had to make the decision again, I would definitely go for the removal again. Had a better life quality after the removal, as the colics before were absolutely brutal xx
