    Dieting with mental health issues?

Im not going into much detail but i was wondering how many people are dieting with mental health issues?

I have a few problems (Still working on a diagnosis) that include anxiety and depression, due to this i over eat A LOT.
I had to leave my job just over a month ago so im not active anymore, due to my problems i cant go outside on my own and i laze a lot!
Has anyone got any tips on keeping myself motivated? (I have been quite ill recently)
Week 1 - 1lb - Ill week with comfort food!

I'm dieting with serious mental health problems - anxiety, depression and bipolar (also been diagnosed with schizoaffective). It doesn't make it any easier that's for sure. I particularly find it problematic that my meds make me ravenously hungry - one of the meds I take is called Olanzapine which is a demon for weight gain. STill I've managed to shift stones slowly - but have gone off the rails recently and put on a stone and am now working on getting that off. Good luck - it can be done, you just have to stick with it however slow a process it is. PM me if you want to chat.

God grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked, the good fortune to remember the ones I do, and the eyesight to tell the difference.

Chocobo I could of wrote your post myself, I've had various mental health issues including anxiety, depression, and social anxiety disorder for the last 10 years and the doctors seem stumped as to what's causing it as anti D's don't help, books on prescription or counselling. I sit around most of the day because everything is too much effort.

I've also gained 10 stone in that time, which the doctor seems to almost enjoy pointing out at every appointment but fails to give any help even though I've asked them to.

After trying all the big name diets I've now decided to try calorie counting, although I have bought the Paul McKenna gastric band book to see if that has any success.

Cocobo, I know you can do this, it maybe a harder battle but all the sweeter for it. My son has what your new team are hinting at and gained weight due to the old meds he was on and the mood thing. I give him gentle reminders now and then to his diet and motivation but the rest is just about being there to support him. He is 17 and i have been told once his adult brain is set he will hopefully settle. He is a very clever young man, kind caring and the strongest person i know. He will get there, although form November 2012 has been very hard not just for him but us all, we are all learning how to cope and i have no doubt he will shed the 2 stones he needs to. Good luck and if you fall off the wagon there is no reason why you can't get back on, take care x

    Thumbs up

Hiya. I am a long term member of the depression and anxiety club (more than a decade) and my weight goes up and down, sometimes linked to moods, sometimes to medication. I've previously gained three stone through depression and inactivity, lost most of it extremely quickly through stress and have been slowly piling it back on over the past few years. I want to wish you all good luck and I am happy to receive PMs as I know what it's like to feel isolated and hopeless.

By the way Krupskaya, I love the senility quotation in your sig!

Hi there, didn't want to read and run. I have labels of anxiety disorder, depression and an eating disorder.

I haven't cracked this weight issue yet, but I finally believe I will

    Good luck x

Chezz I have been meaning to do the Leslie Sansone for a while now... I am going to start tomorrow. I know exercise helps my mental health, and I rarely do any!
