Susie's weight loss 101
I've been an active poster on the Atkins section of Minis for about three years, made many friends along the way but have fallen off the wagon many times, bread being my Achilles' heel. Each time I started, I would dash out of the starting blocks and lose 2-3 stone no problems, then self sabotage would happen and I'd gain back. The usual complex relationship that most of us have!
I've also tried nearly everything else going, from VLCD (lasted three days), Dukan (don't ask), Harcombe, WW, SW - the list goes on. None of them felt right to me. I was constantly obsessing about food, and perhaps not enjoying it as much as I could have been.
But after a recent holiday to Italy, one of many over the years, it suddenly struck me that a Mediterranean woe was exactly what I loved - olive oil, tomatoes, pulses, wine (don't forget the wine) and everything made from scratch so there's no salt, sugar, corn syrup, preservatives and so on - so why not try doing it in combo with calorie counting? I want to move to Italy eventually so why not follow the eating style now? Small servings of delicious food, often - I'll have some of that, thanks!
Finally, a Eureka moment! And how embarrassing that it took so long!!!
Anyhoo, it's Day 2, I'm charting food with MFP for about 1500 cals a day, with the vague aim of getting through Christmas without too many scars, losing a bit and then starting Leslie Sansone - I've got her express 1 and 2 mile inhouse walking DVD and love it.

3 stone lighter than the day I went into labour 29 weeks ago but have been messing around and only lost 7 lb in 3 months!!

Hey hun good luck with your journey here to follow and support wow Italy!! been a few times Italy is lovely how exciting it would be to actually move out there!! cooking from scratch yikes am not a very good cook!! I basically eat stuff I can shove in the oven and boil the veg about the limit of my cooking skills!!

It does seem quiet here, so any encouragement is more than welcome Am doing OK so far, really loving having pulses and bread back in my life without guilt! I've dusted off the slow cooker and have had a few beef and bean meals out of it, just the thing for these cold nights. And a sneaky WI shows a few pounds have come off already.
B - muesli, Rachels' ginger yoghurt, banana, almond milk
L - spinach, tuna, tomatoes and feta cheese salad
D - beef and veg casserole
S - clem, pear, apple - maybe a cup of soup mid afternoon

I love spinach dont eat it enough will choose it if I go out but errr my cooking skills are limited!!
Hi! I remember you from Atkins! I too am a diet hopper...currently vlcd-ing but shopping around for a new diet that is more a way of life. I want to include a few carbs (but healthy), so love the sound of your med diet. Are there any rules attached or is it basically fruit, veg and unprocessed food in moderation (it's the moderation bit I struggle with!)

TBH I'm flying by the seats of my pants a bit re the woe - mostly fruit and veg (about 6-8 servings a day), pulses, beans, pasta, rice (although I do mostly cauli rice, love it), olive oil - and going light on the dairy, bread and meat. I've bought a stack of el cheapo recipe books on Italian and Med cooking to absorb over Christmas, so hopefully the meals will get more interesting
Portion size is a problem for me too so I'm using small bowls and side plates instead of big plates and trying to give my brain time to listen to when my stomach is shouting "I'm full for gawd's sake!" I'm also pinging it all on MFP and aiming for about 1500 cals a day.
I use my slow cooker a lot so the beef casserole I had tonight was simply 1/2 bag frozen beef casserole from Tescos, 1/2 bag frozen broccoli, a bag of frozen Mediterranean veg, 1 can tomato with herbs and 1 container of passata - and switched on low for 8 hours. It was lovely, really tomatoey, and it will make four meals, about 250 cals each, and cost very little (I'm using own brand wherever I can). Will have some for soup tomorrow, as well as a chicken and spinach salad with mint olive oil dressing - from Nudo (online) - they look expensive but last for ages and are lush! I also love the mandarin flavoured one with chicken and iceberg lettuce
Early days yet, but I am really enjoying it Good luck on whatever you plan to try.
Steff - one of my fav ways of eating spinach is to spray a lasagne dish with oil, then throw in some spinach, broccoli and whatever else green I have, melt a container of soft cheese and pour over, then bake for about 30 mins - am going to try some on the weekend with breadcrumbs and parmesan on top

I love Italian! The Veg and cheese idea sounds lovely! I am calorie counting too and have found its the best way for me, it still gives you freedom to live your life and I can have what I want (in moderation) but end up choosing healthier things. Its nice to find some other calorie counters, thought this bit of the forum was a little quiet! x

Another good day - except for one sneaky chocolate digestive - I was full, I looked at it, I didn't really fancy it - so I ate it. Explanations on a postcard, please.
B - yesterday's winning formula of muesli, banana, ginger yogurt and almond milk, two cups of tea
L - yummy - spinach, feta, chicken, tomato and cucumber with mint olive oil on it
D - left over tomatoey veggie slow cooker meal - I've got spinach left over so that's going in and might also add some chorizo
S - clem, apple, two glasses of shiraz
All of which comes to a clattering 1800 cals, mainly the chicken and oil, but the oil in particular is important to keep so I'm happy
