Calorie Counting Diary. Is this ok?

Hi guys,

I'm new here and just wanted to check with you lot if my diary sounds ok. I am doing ok and have lost half a stone so far but think I may be eating too many snack/sweets during the day. I am more of a grazer and like to constantly eat throughout the day but don't know how healthy this is.

A typical day/week is something like this:

Breakfast: Tea with semi-skimmed milk, 2 canderel (10cals). 200g strawberries. (60cals)
Dinner: WW tomato soup (76cals), 4 ryvita crackerbreads (76 cals), 2 extralight laughing cow triangles (40cals)
Tea: Typically something such as:
Breaded chicken breast (lidl, they're lovely! 234cals), salad (74cals), sweetcorn (27 cals), 50g boiled new potatoes (36cals) & tomato ketchup (18cals) - Total: 389cals.

So total for this is about 650-700cals. And then the rest I usually spend on snacking! That was a fairly low cal tea but I usually find that my snacks make up about 400 cals for the day. Is this ok or do I need to having more calories for my main meals and less snacking?

Snacks are usually things such as: Skips (76cals), Curly wurly (115cals), Pink n whites (50cals), Sugar free jelly (15cals), Bubbles hot chocolate (40cals), Mini milks (30 cals), Milkyway bar (96cals), apple (80cals), Banana (100cals)

And sometimes I could have all these snacks on the same day and still be in my calorie allowance but that seems like too many snacks to me?

Any advice would be really appreciated :)

Hey! It's fine as long as you're within your calories for the day. You may want to try and reduce the snacks once you find that you're no longer loosing weight but see how you get on :) good luck!!

Hi LilEm & steff79,

Thanks for the advice! I will see how I get on then! I know what you mean about trying to swap chocolate for healthier things but I am a sugar monster! Haha. I can't function without my daily chocolate fix! What I do find is that I tend to use up most of my calories during the day at work. (if I'm bored or day is dragging I just want to eat!) So I have a really healthy tea and no snacks on the night but think I need to start saving some for after tea on a night! Otherwise I just crave chocolate! How are you 2 getting on? I feel like the weight is taking ages to come off! xxx

Hey! I started taking my weightloss seriously in the middle of jan and have just reached the stone mark today. Im loosing a steady 1-2lb a week, which isnt too bad. Im very impatient haha. Im 13.1 so still have just over 3 stone to loose still :(

Hi,

Me too! I started end Jan but had a few weekends off in between. I've hit my half a stone mark but really want to get to a stone! Well done on reaching your stone mark today!! I know. I'm impatient too! Just want it off now but I know it's better to lose it steadily and healthily so it stays off. I've got 2st 9lb to go till I hit my target. We will have to keep each other motivated! :)

I started losing in August am 1 of those annoying people thats at target well lower than I thought possible in all honestly.. and after going to the gym for the 1st time ever in october I absolutly love it!! I am an excersize junkie!! My diet is not always good but am very aware of what I eat I try hard to be good with errr slip ups!! :p good luck on your journey will check out your diary xx

Hi LilEm,

You're post has inspired me to start my own food diary. :) It's called "Calorie Counting Diary - Mini Goals"

See what you think! xx

Hi KMD, Well done on starting your diary and getting to grips with the weight problem as well. Fact is you don't have to start a new diary just for the food logging after all it's nice to have comments along with it and to give a running account of how the day to day stuff is going as well.

Wish you all the best anyway.

Well done steff79. That's not annoying it all! It's great that you've reached it and will hopefully inspire me to lose it when I know other people around me can do it. I have to admit I've never been a fan of exercise (lately, when I was younger I was super fit, and did athletics twice a week, gymnastics twice a week in four hour blocks, badminton) but I've started doing netball and interval training and running and I'm actually starting to enjoy it! And I think it is really helping keep me motivated. My sister is super fit and drags me to training if I can't be bothered! The rest of my family are all twigs and just eat whatever they want and never put weight on. Annoying or what! Ha. They all sat and ate cookie dough and ice cream (like what you get from pizza hut, I bake all the time) right in front of me and I had to sit there and watch. I was not happy! Haha. But I was impressed with my will power! xx
