I've come to say hello :-)

Hi everyone!

After being diagnosed with adult onset Type 1 diabetes, I decided it was time to get healthy. It was a big wake up call. First part-LOSE WEIGHT! I've been calorie counting for 5 weeks now and have lost 18lb. My friends and family are getting bored of talking about calories and weighing etc etc, so thought I would join in on here, where calories are an obsession! :) (I am self confessed obsessed!).

I have had some truly yummy meals whilst cc and I'm eating better than I ever have done. I predominantly follow CC diet, but aim to have low carbs (because of the diabetes). I love the challenge of finding traditional high cal recipes and altering them to make them diet friendly. I want to be able to share some of these recipes and also get some of your ideas for coming up with something new!

Look forward to speaking to you all :)

Google "I quit sugar", it's changed my life, bet it would help with diabetes.

Well done so far, amazing loss. Xxx

Thank you both for the words of support! Have you found that talking to people helps with the motivation?

I had a quick look at 'I quit sugar'. I am trying to cut out carbs, so I don't have to take insulin-inevitably I end up having a hypo, which is not only bloody awful, but encourages weight gain too. Have you followed this plan? I notice that you've had pretty significant weight loss?!

Food diary for yesterday....

I don't eat breakfast....never have, never will....I know, I know, tut tut and all :)

Lunch: 2 boiled eggs with some salad and laughing cow light: 250 cals

Dinner: chorizo crusted haddock, carrot, swede, garlic and rosemary rosti, roast tomatoes, cheese and onion sauce-660 cals (this was a MASSIVE portion too-I love my food too much to have tiny portions!)

Snacks/drinks: tea/milk: 90 cals
: sugar free jelly: 36 cals
: fat free natural yoghurt with peanut butter flavouring: 100 cals

Total: 1133 for the day

Talking on here and reading folks' diaries really helps me stay motivated. Hence why when I went AWOL the past few months, staying away from the forum I ended up gaining a lot of my loss :(. Right back on it though...

And yup, tut tut tsk tsk you realky should train yourself to eat breakfast!! :p I never used to but started with something small...even one piece of fruit or a yogurt, anything to break that fast and get your metabolism moving again.

I don't eat sugar or refined carbohydrate. So inevitably I am low carb. I treat any unrefined carbohydrate as a special treat so don't even have that very often.

I love talking to people about it, mostly because it has changed my life. Without sugar food no longer controls me, it's amazing! I bore anyone who will listen about how incredible it is. For the first time in 12 years I eat to live, and it's all because my blood sugar levels no longer rule my life. I've not had a binge since I quit sugar last August. If you had told me this was possible before I tried it I would have laughed in your face! Xxx

What area of North Wales do you live in - when I am home I go to freda fitness (google it) it is brilliant for motivation and exercise classes.

It used to be Rosemary Conley club but she is no longer in business but it has carried on.

That's ok, hon, you don't need to eat breakfast! I don't eat until what most people would consider lunchtime. An extended daily fast is a perfectly valid option. But, you definitely need to eat more - I'd aim for at least 1,500 a day. :) xx

Hi guys im a newbie to CC. I've lost a stone and a half doing slimming world but put half that stone bk on. Just feel like Sw isn't working for me anymore. So 1st day of cc for me. Enjoying it so far. How did u all decide on how much cals u shld have a day? x

I find it's a bit of a vicious circle. I start eating more 'bad stuff', so I avoid weighing myself. Because I haven't seen the damage I've done, I continue to eat more 'bad stuff' and before I know it' I've put on more weight than I'd lost! I've been yo-yo dieting for most of my adult life! I've never considered a forum before; I've started slimming world god knows how many times, but didn't go to meetings if I'd not lost any weight! Haha!

It's different now though-like I said, developed diabetes has been such a wake up call-I'm at so much risk from heart, renal, peripheral vascular, eye and cerebrovascular disease because of the diabetes, I need to lose weight and get healthy to control this risk! Next on the agenda is exercise-I break into a cold sweat thinking about it :)

I quite agree-most of my inspiration for meals has come from a combination of standard recipes, tweeked with ideas from food diaries!

My diet is not dissimilar to yours, although I suppose I'm slightly more relaxed. I haven't got a sweet tooth, so sweet refined carbs are not really an issue, apart from when I have a hypo, then I HAVE to have them-which is gutting! This was the main reason for me going low carb-if I don't eat refined/starchy carbs, I don't need my rapid acting insulin, therefore much less chance of hypo.

I did miss potatoes, rice, pasta, bread-now, not so much. Now, like yourself, have these occasionally. I have already found that eating does not rule my life. I think food rules my life, but in a much better way...looking for healthy combinations and creating new meals!

I can see that you've lost a lot of weight-an inspiration and motivator for myself :)

Sorry, I don't know what I pressed then! :)

You've lost a huge amount of weight! That's brilliant! 12 stone gives me a BMI of 24.9-haha, that will do for me! I know everyone probably says this, but there is no way I could get much lower than that and stick to it. I am actually 'big boned'-admittedly, surrounded by a lot of fat at the moment, but none the less, big set. I'm actully reallly happy with my figure at 13 stone, but would love to be classed as 'normal weight' for once in my life, as opposed to overweight, or even worse, obese! I have an interim target of 14 stone, so it isn't quite so daunting!

It helps that my partner is just as determined as I am to do this-he has put on a lot of weight in the last few years.

I see you're in USA at the moment-I've never been. I put off going, because I think I'd put on a stone in a week! Too much watching man vs food-I'd want to hunt out the places he eats and binge :)

Thank God I am not the only one that can't eat first thing. I was too scared to put it on here! I have a nice big brunch when I get hungry. I have to be up and moving to get an appetite. 2 meals a day does it for me but I am having to 'weed out' those fatty extras.

Hi

I had a look at freda fitness-it looks fantastic! But, I think a little to far from me. I live the other side of the north wales coast, nearer chester.

I keep contemplating exercise, but the thought of lycra clad 'fit folk' really puts me off! I bought the dirty dancing workout DVD a few years back...I sat on the sofa, with a bag of crisps, watching and singing along :-D.

The mere thought of eating first thing is enough to make me nauseated! I have spent most of my adult life trying to convince people that a) I'm not pregnent! and b) I can function very well with no breakfast :)

I drink tea, with milk, throughout the morning-this is technically food and will kick start my metabolism to a certain extent :) If it was up to me, I'd just have one huge meal a day, but I have succumbed to pressures to eat lunch :)
