Hello!

Hi, I'm new, I was advised to come in this thread as I'm trying to lose weight by counting calories too.

im currently staying with my boyfriends family so I'm not really in control of my meals. I have ibs and wheat is a trigger so they already have to deal with special diary requirements for me with out me suddenly saying I want to lose weight. But this is important to me. The nurse practitioner even told me I was obese which was really hard to hear. I just got upset and comfort are. But I'm here now to do my best!

What do you think is the best way to approach my diet intentions with the in laws? I really don't want to sound like I'm being ungrateful

Hi Plump Kitten,

Its a tricky situation! Could you have smaller portions and bulk it out with extra veg/salad? What sort of meals are they making? Maybe they could be cooked in a healthier way?

Talk to them - explain what the doctor said and that you want to do something about it. You never know, one of the family might be keen to join in?

Good luck to you :)

Today was Sunday lunch, and the mum made me wheat free Yorkshire puddings and gravy, I was hoping to avoid those two things. I managed to avoid seconds and kept the potatoes to a minimum. I hinted at the fact I want to lose weight by telling her about my plans to join the gym, but I'm not sure she twigged what I was getting at. Breakfast and lunch is fine as we are left yo our own devices, but she's making such an effort to include me in the dinner meals with my wheat intolerance I just feel like a bit of a pain in the butt if I go, well thanks but no thanks.

It's been a week now and I've gone to the gym five times this week, just cardio that's what my instructor advised as I'm pretty new to exercise. I weighed myself at the gym before my workout, a day earlier than planned but still. I have gained weight. I was 88.8 and now I'm 91.1 this is really upsetting. I've been trying to stick to my calorie goal of 1200 and most days it's been fine. I'm due for my time of the month do you think that's an issue? I'm really disappointed as I've been giving it my all at the gym every time I've gone as everyone doctors and blunt nurses included said it was the best thing for me to do. I dunno what else to do, I've been logging everything on my fitness pal too, even when I've gone over. It's pretty difficult being on a dit when you are someone's guest but I really hoped to lose even a little weight. What am I doing wrong?

You're probably eating too little, if you are at the gym 5 days and only eating 1200 cals you are not getting anywhere near enough fuel.

Google a TDEE calculator and when you know your TDEE minus 20% for approx 2lb loss per week.

Also weighing everyday and expecting a daily loss is not realistic. Weight is only one way to measure losses. if you are exercising I recommend checking inch loss as well. Muscle takes up less volume than fat, therefore you could weigh exactly the same but still be thinner.

Lots of things result in fluctuations on the scales, unless you can accept this without becoming demotivated you probably shouldn't weigh every day.

As for the in laws, tell them what you can and can't have, if they can't accept this then buy your own. This is your health and your journey, it's not about keeping other people happy.

Good luck. Xxx

Hello Kitten! You wrote: I 'm due for my time of the month do you think that's an issue? - Yes i am sure this is the reason! If you are counting caloeirs and go the gym 5 times per week, you for sure should lose weight! So do not worry! The next week everything will be great. Just keep going and do not lose hope. Good luck to you;-)

Do you know how she did this ? Only asking because I have Crohn's and my MIL would not have a clue how to feed me and wheat free yorkies would have really thrown her.

Can you sit down with her and tell her instead of hinting - again with my MIL it would go in one ear and out of the other and then serve up cakes and biscuits

As lindsey said 1200 is a too low when you weigh 14stone - when I was 15 stone I started at between 15 and 16,000 then you can cut down later.

Good Luck with Calorie Counting - I did SW and gained and find CC the best.
