    5:2 to *Target*!

I've decided to give something new a try, in the hopes that I will finally get to my target of 130.0lbs. I previously followed Slimming World (from home) and approximately went from 164.0lb to 150.0lb in 2012/2013. I then played around with Herbalife for a while until I then went back to Slimming World and since July 2014 I went from 149.6lb to 136.0lb in December 2014. I gained over Christmas (obviously) and have then danced between 138.8lb-144.4lb over January/February 2015. Slimming World has been good to me, but I feel that I've now come as far as I can following the plan. I have looked back at my previous food diary, and noticed that while on plan, my portion sizes have been very big. I've also noticed a pattern that I tend to 'slip up' on weekends and on any social events.

I did try 5:2 briefly last summer, but I wasn't counting the calories accurately, and I didn't count my calories AT ALL on 'Feast Days'. I've now calculated that on my 'Feast Days', I can have up to 1,900 calories, though MFP says I can have up to 1,760 calories to 'maintain', so I will aim for between the two. My FAST Days will be Tuesdays and Thursdays, but I will chop and change them to suit my plans for the week (for example, it's my birthday on 5/3/2015 and I'm NOT having a Fast Day on my birthday.. )

Exercise wise, I am currently doing the Extreme Squats 30 Day Challenge, and the 30 Day Plank Challenge. I am waiting to start a new job, and hope to be more active when I am back to work. For now, I have classified myself as Sedentary/Lightly Active (I don't drive yet, so do a lot of walking).

I'm hoping that more flexibility from this plan will enable me to stay on track, especially over the weekends and when faced with menu's in restaurants. I also feel that this plan will be more convenient for me, for example when starting a new job, as I do enjoy cooking from scratch but when I'm busy and for lunches out, being able to grab something quick and calorie count it will be more ideal.

I am honestly quite excited to be trying something different and very hopeful that this will help me get to target. Fridays will continue to be my WI days.

Today is my first FAST Day, and I'm planning to complete my exercises, shower, and head to the shops for some low calorie snacks and meals.

Feeling good after my first FAST, and I know I won't have anything else tonight. Looking forward to a Feast Day tomorrow though!

I have found today quite difficult, but I think that's because I've been at home. I think the Fasts will be easier/'faster' when I am back in a routine of being at work, as I will be busy and have something to take my mind off of food.

I've felt quite cold for the majority of today too. Got to up the layers I think! x

Oooh look at you, new plan & new diary!! I think SW is all about optimising & the food combinations are good which helps the loss. 1200 calories seems very low & is the minimum you can have on mfp...you get a warning otherwise!! Looks like you've had a good start on 5:2

Definitely aim for your TDEE as provided by the calculator - MFP is not all that accurate and isn't able to factor in that you are doing 5:2.

    Good luck! x

    Welcome everyone

I'm feeling really proud that my first Fast Day was a success. I did, however, really struggle to get to sleep last night as my tummy was rumbling. I got into bed at 10pm, because my body felt tired (I put this down to fasting) but then I just couldn't drift off. I think if I have any left over calories I need to use them on a snack right before bedtime, to try to avoid this next time.

I also made the mistake of following my usual morning routine of doing my extreme squats and plank challenges this morning. I completed a 30 second plank and 280 squats (Day 4 of the challenges) but felt really dizzy after. I hadn't eaten anything yet, but I think if I am exercising after a Fast Day, I need to eat something first! I definitely don't think I could ever do back-to-back Fast Days!

    So Feast Day today.............

    Feast Day
    Breakfast:
    - Brunch Bar
    Lunch:
    - Greggs Tuna Crunch Baguette
    - M&S Crispy Fudge Bar
    - Ringos Crisps
    Dinner:
    - Micro Chips
    - 2 slices white bread and Flora Light butter
    - 50g Toblerone Chocolate Cake
    Other:
    - 1 glass of white wine

Feels like quite an indulgent day, and I still have 375cals to play with. I think I went a bit 'mad' as there's so many foods that I haven't been able to have for so long, because they would have had to have been 'synned' or weren't 'SW Friendly', for example, the Brunch Bar! I've also thought about my eating habits, and simple things like a sandwich from the shops (even a low cal one) have previously sent me spiralling into thinking 'well, I've blown it now, I may as well be bad for the rest of the day'. I think I am more likely to stay 'on plan' with the freedom that 5:2 gives. Granted my food choices need to be better on Feast Days, but I admit I was like a kid in a sweet shop today.

So today, after breakfast, I went into town and went to M&S in preparation for tomorrow's Fast Day. Stocked up on some Fuller For Longer's (though I noticed they are not called this any more?) to keep me going. I have had these before and have been very pleasantly surprised with the taste, quality and filling effect of these meals. I then went into Iceland and stocked up on some freezer friendlies... simple things like potato croquettes and spicy breaded chicken (YUM).

Dinner tonight was SUPPOSED to be Aldi's Hunter's Chicken with rocket, but the damn thing just would not cook! So in the end I went for a microchip 'butty'... I think I will make use of my remaining calories later if I get hungry. I am really pleased that I have been making good use of MFP and even discovered the bar code scanning bit... haha, that's pretty nifty! It found my bottle of wine ... and I was very proud of myself as I weighed out the slice of cake my family had dished up for me, checked the calories, and then cut the cake in half and re-weighed it before eating it, and giving the other half away. Before, I probably would have thought 'ohhhh, eating cake, that's it... may as well binge'.... but I still feel 'in control'.

Feeling pretty good at the moment! Bring on tomorrow's Fast, ahead of WI on Friday morning.
