Wait...you gave up smoking? Well, that's brilliant!
Stop with the negative self-talk right there. YOU GAVE UP SMOKING.
OK, so that IS a new beginning. And giving up smoking and overeating for a bit is healthier than not giving up smoking and starting a diet right away.
So, you've gained weight since Friday...that was...a week ago?
A week of weight gain is small change compared to the massive benefit to your life with quitting smoking. Your system has probably just gone into shock and is using whatever it can to make you feel better. So it's going for food at the moment.
That's alright!
I say...chill out and let it. Let it do what it wants, be nicer to yourself, and things WILL stabilize over time.
Are you getting support with quitting? I suggest you do :)
And just relax and praise yourself for this BIG achievement. Focus on quitting cigarettes and put the support in place both emotionally...lifestyle...with any support you need from doctors etc - to help you STAY quit.
THEN, when this change has stabilized, THEN losing weight.
*ONE* big lifestyle change at a time. Otherwise your system will crash and NONE of it will stick.
Do a big praise and love for yourself for quitting smoking. That's a HUUUUUUGE well done. Harder to do that than to diet and lose weight, I think!!! So, you gained a little weight...put this in perspective :) What you have also gained is no more smoking!
I would focus on that change and say well done for yourself for that and put your energy into making that stick. Then, allow your body to calm down on its own, once your body, mind and emotions adjust to this change, and you feel happier...then make another change. For now, just relax and bless yourself for this big thing you've already done.
Happy 2013!! :) And well done you!!!!! :)
PS has beating yourself over the head and trying to change everything all at once, EVER worked for you? No? Then stop it! Right now! :) I hereby give yourself permission to relax and be nice to YOU:)
