Special milestone for me today, three stones have officially gone and I'm just 3lbs away from my target. Hope to get there by the end of September, if I'm lucky

I started on 11th May on SW and started running at the same time. Had lost my first stone by beginning of July but then decided to start 5:2'ing. I'd been a dedicated fan of SW for many years yo-yo'ing and I now realise that it doesn't suit me, nor teach me about portion control. So I spent July cheating my SW days and lost a few more pounds, but not much. So I decided to go down the calorie counting route on 29th July and committed to inputting everything that passed my lips into MFP. I was a confirmed SW green dayer, a total carboholic and then a chance remark (on this forum actually, made me sit up and question.... it said "I don't eat carbs because they make me bloated and sluggish". Now I'd always assumed that my pot belly was part of me and I'd attributed my sleepiness and need for daily power naps down to being menopausal, not my diet. So I decided to do a week of "red" days instead, to see whether the reduction in carbs would have any effect and within 4 days my stomach was washboard flat and I was more alert! It was a total revelation to me. So I ditched "white carbs" in favour of wholemeal and brown rice, but then ditched those pretty much completely in favour of cauliflower "rice" and courgette "spaghetti" which I find much more tasty, to be honest. I do occasionally eat a small wholemeal roll with some home-made soup but I'm much more into lentils and other sources of complex carbs.

So I've found a new love of running and do 5K 2 or 3 times a week now. To be able to run, you have to eat healthily - and the running helps with the weight loss, so the two are mutually beneficial. I'm scared of reaching target as I've never been any good at not going back to my old habits, but this time I totally changed my eating habits and I enjoy food a lot more now, in smaller portions.

I started off doing the Couch to 5K programme, katsmad....

    The Couch-to-5K ® Running Plan | C25K Mobile App

You can download a podcast for each week and the individual days of weeks 5 and 6, so that you can have a "personal trainer" in your ear telling you when to walk and run. I didn't know about the podcasts for the first couple of weeks so I was using my dear little watch with it's second hand to tell me when I should be running or walking. Thus, I got the first week completely wrong and instead of running for 60 seconds and walking for 90, I reversed them.... so then I didn't feel I gained anything in week two so I carried on doing what I'd been doing for week one! This is a programme that really works.... it is even on the NHS website, thousands of people have been able to go through and on to 5K running. I'd never run a step in my life, PE was avoided at school and I never even ran for a bus "Ack, I'll get the next one!" and yet I am a TOTAL convert and now one of those saddo's you see with an arm cuff, a pair of headphones and all the gear - out running in all weathers... who'd have thought. Give it a go, the sense of achievement and self-virtue are great stimulus to add towards your weight loss. If you download something like Endomondo or Runkeeper you'll be able to watch your speed and distance improve over time AND see how many calories you've burned!!!
