    Seven Weeks after hitting target.....

AND I'M STILL THE SAME WEIGHT!!!!!

Having spent the last 15 years yo-yo dieting, I am MORE proud of myself for maintaining for seven weeks than for losing weight in the first place I am still weighing daily and logging everything into MFP - I will need to carry on doing this for quite a while yet - they're my supports....

I HAVE had to change my way of eating slightly though... about a week after I hit maintenance, the weather changed and autumn hit. I really... REALLY started to crave carbs - the pangs were FAR worse than any of the general hunger pangs I'd gone through over the summer whilst I was losing the weight or fasting. So after about a weeks of being a real grumpy cow-bag (I didn't cheat, but I was just hungry all the time) I started reading up on Autumn Feed Syndrome* and changed it all up again. Having lost the weight with a combo of low-cal, low-carb, CC, IF and running, I changed to even lower carb, lower sugar and high fat! Kind of like Atkins, I suppose, although I've never actually tried Atkins before. It totally went against my long-standing processes, to be eating FAT again, good fat, I should hasten to add - butter, olive oil, full fat mayo, natural yoggie and CHEESE! Salads with oily dressings.... omelettes drizzled in Stilton... yum yum bubble gum!!! And consequently my calorie count has gone through the roof.... BUT.... the plan is working for me - I don't feel hungry any more and I haven't re-gained any weight. What I've learned is that carbs + fat = bad, fat + sugar = bad and carbs + fat + sugar = bad. I'm still really fascinated in the science of nutrition and how it all works so it is almost exciting trying something new and seeing how my body reacts. I never would have thought that I could leap from a daily calorie count of 1400 to 2400 and STILL not gain weight, just because I am restricting the amount of carbs I eat!! I know some people on the Atkins diet only allow 20g of net carbs per day, but as a runner, I know that I need to have more than that so I tend to loiter around the 50-60g net per day. And this gives me the energy to run but keeps the weight stable.

This week I have just reintroduced fasting as I want to be able to relax at Christmas and eat a little of what I fancy, but I'd rather lose the weight in advance rather than be playing "catch-up" into the new year.....

When I hit target I panicked as I was terrified I'd lose my willpower. I HAVE had some weak days in my maintaining but I now have the strength of will and determination to wake up the next day and tone down my eating again to compensate. Who'd have thought......

*AFS.... thought to be an evolutionary thing - Mother Nature wants us to take on extra food for the times of scarcity ahead over winter - and the foods that are in season now are all carb-rich things like squashes, beets and root vegetables.

This is amazing to read you are doing so well! It's really interesting about the fat, this week I decided to stop counting calories and feed my body what it needs including lots if healthy veg, protein and nuts. It was after attending a nutrition seminar on Monday night where they were explaining the science behind higher fat/lower carb effect on the body. Its reassuring that you haven't gained weight doing this please keep us updated x

I have been on and off diets for over 30 years. When I hit 50 in 2011 I decided I really really needed to do something. It wasn't until April 2012 that I was introduced to Paleo/Primal.I hit my target Oct 2012 and have maintained since.I have put on the odd llb or two in that year but once I see the gain I go back to basics and it comes off.

    I flit between 8st 4 and 8st 9.
    Started Paleo/Primal Apr 2012 at 9st 9lbs.Got down to 8st 4lbs October 2012 and have been maintaining between 8st 4lbs-8st 7lbs since.

If you want it enough you won't keep finding excuses to not do it.

Domane, I have seen many of your posts and am totally inspired by your success - well done! Would you mind posting a day of your food on here so I could see the sort of things you eat - sorry if it's terribly rude to ask!

I'm terrible at low carb - I think it's actually a very healthy way to go, but I just feel better if I'm eating "good" carbs...I shall watch your progress with interest
