Any help appreciated! Plateau and getting angry!

Ello everyone

I'm getting to the end of my tether! I've hit a plateau!

I work hard at the gym always doing a 500+ cal burn.

I have lost 4.5 stone in the last 16 months with calorie counting eating around 1500 cals everyday. Started at 17.8 and down to 13.4

Now that u know a bit about me I need HELP!

It just doesn't seem to be shifting any more! I've still got a stone and a half to go!

I've upped the gym reps, weights and distance on cardio machines - NOTHING

eaten more clean foods instead of processed - NOTHING

tried herbalife - lost 1.5lb but that has just shifted the rest of the Xmas weight I still had to lose! I've been 13.4 give or take Xmas and new year since November!

I'm thinking of dropping calories to 1200 and then having a few more on gym days? Say if I do burn 500 but I won't eat the whole 500 back maybe just half?

Please help! Obviously now I'm a bit lighter I can drop down to 1200 instead of 1500?

Look forward to hearing your ideas cos I'm starting to freak out lol

Thanks in advance x

Hi there! Well done on your fantastic results and commitment to your healthier life journey.
How frustrating to hit this stop though !
I am kind of in the same position, but mine is self inflicted..: / I lost over 5 stone through calorie counting and exercise. And have maintained for almost 2 years but I need to lose one more stone.. Though I can't get motivated to do it. Maybe it's the thrill of wearing size 10/12 for the first time ever is enough that I just don't have any thing to push for!! But I'm still too heavy!! And have let the exercise slip and losing the tone a bit!!
Anyway apologies for the ramble, I need to kick myself up the bum whereas you sound like you have the motivation but are purely on a plateau, maybe you need to look at your food., is it always the same? Can you vary it a bit to shake things up. Try some new foods. Surprise your body a bit. Maybe have a couple of higher calorie days maybe 1800 then drop to 1200 for a few just to kick-start things.
Perhaps your exercise routine needs a change. Our muscles get complacent after about 4/6 weeks of the same routine and there is no longer as much resistance.
Good luck sweetheart. Look how far you have come. It's amazing x

High days and normal days can give your metabolism a kick up the bum. Also play around with types of food. Have you tried reducing sugar and carbs, in women this can be effective?

Be careful of going too low, with the amount of exercise you are doing you need plenty of calories to encourage muscle repair and growth.

Have you tried ditching cardio and concentrating on strength and resistance training? Burns more cals in the long run and you continue burning at a high rate long after the work out. Good luck xxx

Hi Jo!!! Hope you are well and sorry to hear about the plateau. Must be soo frustrating as I know you are totally in the zone. Others have given some good advice I think. Would you consider 5:2? Or perhaps a super low carb day a week? Just keep trucking and you will get there eventually! I have been stuck at 9st 5 - 9st 9 for aggggges it seems. As long as we carry on with healthy eating and exercise we will get there :D

Thanks all so much for your great advice and kind words.

I've took some time to really look at what's going on and decided to commit to 100 days being 100% good and not messing around!

I've done a lot of soul searching and if I'm really honest with myself as I enjoy the gym so much I've had no problems with increasing weights times etc it's the food I've got to look at. I feel like I'm good most of the time but that's just not enough!!

I've basically given myself just over 14 weeks to lose 20lb, 1.5lb a week ish, which really does take the pressure off. I'm so used to seeing big losses but need to realise that the little losses add up!!!

I'm coming to the end of my weight loss journey and it's going down with a bang.

Thanks all soooooo much! It's really helped having your support :)

Hi LadyJo I just want to say well done on your weightloss so far. Try hang in there you've done brilliant to get this far :) I think having patience when trying to lose weight is the hardest thing ever. I always lose weight so slowly so I feel like I'm never going to lose it and then I end up having 1 bad week and giving up! I'm my own worst enemy! That's some transformation I see on your profile pic so when I see pics like that and hear success stories it inspires me to keep at it so thanks for that! I often heard that if you change the type of exercise you do it might help get through that wall. Maybe take up cycling or swimming for a few weeks and see if it kick starts your weightloss again. Good Luck with it anyway and keep us posted :)
