Just wondering if anyone is eating more than 1200 calories per day, really struggling to find like minded people.

Hi there :) I have 1450cals a day. Aiming to lose around 1.5lbs a week and this is the recommendation of MFP for me. Xx

Oh hey thanks for the reply!!!!!! Kinda thought I was out there on my own lol... I am a member of mfp but the forums seem to get really clicky and I never seem to be able to get involved in conversations etc.
congrats on the weight loss 1 stone 5 is fab, have you lost that all eating 1450 calories??? I'm on 1900 and loosing so I'm over the moon, more room for food lol yum

Little bit embarrassed to admit those stats are VERY outdated!! I lost that doing slimming world but have managed to gain back up to 13st 2 :-( very frustrated but SW was no longer working for me so I am now heading to then end of my 1st week of cal counting! Xx

Ah ok well still good job on your first week!!!! I tried slimming world, and whilst I thought it was fab, I didn't really loose a lot due to having all the free foods, I guess I kinda over ate thinking it was ok.

I'm having 1200 a day to, although if I have a particularly hard workout I try to eat some of my burnt calories back. It makes me feel all weak and shakey the day after if I don't. :)

Having weighed myself this morning and only lost 0.25lbs I'm going to try a week of 1200 cals and see what difference that makes :) just about to get some breakfast and head to the gym. X

The way it was explained to me, and it totally made sense is that 1200 is right for some people but not for everyone. Many peoples basal metabolic rate is higher than this, this is the amount of calories you would need to stay alive if you were completely sedentary, say in a coma or something. There is a calculation that you can do to work this out by the way if anyone is interested. So, if you are eating less that that bmr, your body thinks it's in starvation mode, and whilst you will initially drop some weight, eventually the body is going to go into panic mode and stop losing.
So at the very least you need to be eating at this bmr, in fact I have found that by using the calculation to work out the maximum you can eat without losing or gaining weight, then dropping the calories by 15-20% I am still able to lose weight which makes me very happy.
Blimey I really hope this makes sense lol

I've never eaten as low as 1,200 a day - way too little for me, lol. I started out on 1,800-2,000, then gradually decreased to around 1,400-1,500, which is plenty low enough. I've lost over 10 stone, so it does work quite well. :) xx

Brilliant - I don't think I could survive on 1200 lol I like my food to much

I agree, it's too low for me, it needs to be something that's sustainable in the long term. If you go too low you're far more likely to fail. Good luck! :) xx

I'm on 1700 a day roughly. If I exercise I eat more. I have a stone to lose. Im 5ft 3 and 9.11. Hth x

Hi, I've read time and time again that we should be eating a lot more than 1200 calories. I find it so interesting but admit that I'm too scared to take the plunge. I have quite a lot to lose. How has your weight loss been on 1900 if you don't mind me asking?

Sparkles I also eat my exercise calories. Can I ask by eating your exercise calories how much do you lose a week? X

Oh I wish I had an extra 3"s (says every man lol) but I'm 5ft with 6st to lose and mfp said 1200 for me, surely such a small difference of a couple of inches can't make such a huge difference? I wonder if it's wrong for me? X

If I were you I wouldn't take what MFP says as gospel - it tends to be on the low side in my experience. If you have 6 stone to lose I'd start on higher calories and see how you get on. Go online and Google BMR calculator - aim to eat AT LEAST the amount it gives you for your BMR. The amount you have needs to be sustainable, so I certainly wouldn't start out on 1,200. :) xx

Thank you for that. I checked earlier and figured out the BMR was 1599 and if I wanted to maintain then I need 1870, but then they say you want a 500 calorie deficit a day and I got all confused and just went with the mfp one lol xx
