Hi all x

What exercise do you do?

I have recently joined the gym and am reconsidering! Is it going to be good for me or can I do something just as effective from home or myself?

Xx

Hi!

I would go to the gym if I could but you can exercise effectively from home too.
I have dumbbells and use a number of different upper and lower body dumbbell exercises, and have an exercise bike that I use for my cardio!
As for core exercises, all you need is an exercise mat.
Or you could go for jogs which cost nothing.

Any sort of exercise will benefit you whether it's at home or at the gym, as long as you're motivated to do it!

I go to the gym and was really nervous at first and always went with my husband but after a month of getting used to all the machines i felt happy to go on my own (he doesnt need to exercise as much as me!) and I do genuinely enjoy it now after saying to myself for years that i wasnt a gym person.

I also do the Kinect on the Xbox at home now and again and I have fun as well as burning calories!!

Best thing I did was buy a heart rate monitor so I know when I'm in my fat burning zone and I know how many calories I've burnt off by the end of my gym session.

Hi Lozzie

I have been going to the gym for a while and have ended up doing body tone, pilates and spin cycling. You need to work your way up to the spin though and it's not for everyone but is my favourite exercise although it exhausting.

I have found it hard to lose weight because I don't think that although its an excellent diet that Slimming world was for me. I had a peak today and have lost weight this week on calorie counting.

Hope it work s for you.

My partner recently bought me a road bike so I've been using that on the turbo trainer in the garage since last week. I'm knackered after 20 minutes though!! I wouldn't mind going to the gym and using the couch to 5k app on the treadmill, but I suppose I could save myself the money and do it outside but I'm too chicken haha :)

Hi,
I'm trying an exercise dvd in the evenings, I'm on week 3 (but only been calorie counting for 1 week) and I'm losing motivation because it's so repetitive. Maybe when I start seeing some results it'll encourage me to keep at it.

If you enjoy the gym you'll get results because you'll keep going plus like others have said it doesn't matter what the weather is like you can keep going!

Thanks Rachella that's a really good idea I didn't think of looking on youtube, I'm going to have a look tonight :)

I find there's a lot of good yoga videos on YouTube. I'm thinking of starting again when my daughter has her nap.

I like to mix it up a bit. ... Have been going the gym but it's so busy in there at the mo I'm avoiding it on week nights! doing insanity at home instead! I'm aiming to do at least 30 minutes of something active for the next 100 days :-D

OMG Becky the Insanity workout looks sooo hard!! I've been doing slim in 6 (also from Beach Body) which I find hard enough I don't think I'd manage Insanity lol

It is hard, I've just finished today's and I can barely move! I ached all over today from yesterday too!

I know that it works though which is why I'm pushing myself. .. I'm the same at the gym and push myself to my limits because I'm too impatient and want results over night! !

Ooh you're brave doing insanity! My friend did it for ages but gave up eventually as apparently it's quite repetitive. I like the horrible ache when you've worked hard :D

I think it can get a bit same-y after a while and I'm hoping that's she my gym time and swimming will balance out the variety.

I'm not sure about brave .... More like crazy!

I'm looking forward to having definition and being toned got summer though!

I really enjoy running and road cycling but finding the Scottish winter has hindered this a bit! Hoping to be able to get back out again soon! I love how much more toned it lets me feel but also extra calorie allowance!

I love running so try to do that daily, although I like fartlek (funny name, means 'speed play' in swedish) training where you run at varying speeds like sprinting, hill running, jogging and sometimes I mix it with some walking so I'm not sure if I can actually run non-stop for longer than 5k. I have anxiety related issues which are much better when I run and I actually feel quite unwell on days that I have to do something else and can't run! (I was a very unsporty child/teenager but have been running since I was 19). I'm thinking about doing a 10k race but not sure! I binge-eat sometimes so although running daily helps, I can eat vastly more calories than I've worked off.

It all depends what you want out of the gym. I run for cardio, do martial arts for body resistance and reserve the gym for weight training.
