Beginning Calorie Counting

Hi all,

I have been browsing the forums and I'm looking for some help with calorie counting. I've done SW/WW in the past but I find the classes a bit patronising at times. A friend has lost weight through calorie counting, so I'd like to give it a go.

I'm using MFP to keep a log of my food intake but where I get stuck is meals which are made from scratch. How do I work out the calorie content for a meal - I know that I would need to measure/weigh everything and then weigh the final portion that I am not sure what the calculation is? Sorry if it seems a bit stupid.. I'm still programmed to points and syns!

Thanks in anticipation for your help :)

On MFP there is a box called Recipes - click on that and you post your recipe in there and state how many portions and it will work it out for you. If you get the recipe off the net you can just put the URL in the title box and it will find and post it for you and work out the cals.
When it comes up with the calculation just read all the ingredients to make sure they have put the correct amount in - sometimes they get it wrong but you can adjust the quantity yourself. The other day it put 100 pieces of garlic in my recipe instead of 1

Calorie King is a good site for finding out the cals in food - just google it and you will find the site.
