A very true insight, I think it goes further in life then the VLCD diets. If you, generally see things in your life as being in a prison, having to go to work, having to exercise, having to study your life becomes a lot of things that you MUST do, it's a good reminder that you always have a choice in all the things we tend to think that we must do, we just have to deal with the consequences later on. But all the same, we have a choice.
For me, the VLCD diet was definitely a choice and it forced me to see that I have so many other choices besides food in life. To find ways to hang out with friends, deal with feeling bored or sad without clinging to food (Because, yes, I did that so well. It was just so easy. ) So yes, good and clear insight.

I've just read your post - I thought it was great and so true.
I'm on day 2 of CD, tomorrow is day 3, and I've realised that I was forced to do every other diet I tried - forced by myself because I HAD to lose weight but I felt resentful that I had to stop eating all my favourite foods so I'd end up overeating.
I'm actually now so happy at the thought of losing weight and I'm just doing it for me, and my health and confidence rather than for an event - which meant, yes, I would lose the weight but after the event the weight would come back on and more!
I won't let myself give up for once, the only thing that will stop me from doing this is me!

The first kind are those that see the diet as a prison, they aren't allowed to eat, they aren't allowed to drink, they aren't allowed to go out and socialise on the diet, they aren't allowed to do things they want to do.

The second kind are those that see the diet as a choice, at anytime they can go and eat what they want, they can go and drink what they want but they choose not to because they want to lose weight and be slim more than they want to eat or drink.

The people who see the diet as a prison sentence tend to hate the diet all the way through, they generally feel unhappy while losing weight and from my experience tend to "escape" from the prison at some point and eat and drink and then the diet becomes even tougher.

For those that make a choice to just not eat or drink I find they tend to enjoy the diet!! They have made a good choice as they can feel the results and with the right mindset it is just a matter of keeping yourself focussed for a few months while you get to where you really want to get to.

All of us who start a VLCD desperately want to lose weight for many reasons and we all know the diet is in our own heads. If you drink the packs and drink the water and avoid food then you will lose weight as it is impossible not to, the only problem is whether your mind makes you falter along the way.

So please please see the diet as a choice, and a very good choice as it will change your life for the better.

    GO FOR IT!!
What a great way to look at things ... I'm out of prison now by choice!

I would agree to an extent- I think that you aren't necessarily one or the other. I would see myself as the second type - I think it's great and the only 'diet' that will work for me. However there are days where I'm low and I feel imprisoned. For example last week I could not get back on the diet for love nor money but come Sunday was able to re-start no problem.

I would be inclined to change it to there are two mindsets you can have while on this as opposed to types of people? KWIM?

    Hi Mrs JK,
Glad u got back on track. For me it was more about having a positive outlook rather than negative one because I always felt I was being punished for being over weight and didn't look at it as choice b4. Hope u have a good week x

Thanks and it's great your outlook changed. I suppose it's the whole PMA thing which way to look at it 'a glass half empty or half full'.

Personally VLCDs have been a godsend to me !

    Take care

Great post! I'm just starting and have been noticing that I'm thinking of this a bit as a "prison term" and looking forward to when I'm "free". Stinkin' thinkin'!
    Thanks!
