Exclamation Dangers Of Alcohol When In Ketosis

    Hi all,

I cannot remember where I got this snippet from but it may be worth a read as we are now coming into the Christmas period and temptation is always around the corner!!

Link found: Post-exercise ketosis, ketone bodies

DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL IF YOU ARE KETOTIC!
Alcohol is a powerful inhibitor of gluconeogenesis. In fact, it forces part of the gluconeogenic metabolic process into reverse. This means that if all the glucose in the blood is being derived from gluconeogenesis then the consumption of alcohol will inevitably cause the blood glucose level to fall. Worse still, the alcohol also stops ketone body production, thus leaving the brain entirely without fuel.
A person who is ketotic is 100% reliant on gluconeogenesis to maintain adequate levels of glucose in the blood. If, under these circumstances alcohol is taken, the person will become disorientated and might lose consciousness, not just from the alcohol, but from low blood sugar. Needless to say, this could be very dangerous, and even fatal.
Alcohol does not have these effects if the glycogen stores in the liver are normal. Under these circumstances the blood glucose level in the blood is maintained by the breakdown of liver glycogen, a process that is not influenced by alcohol. If a person becomes confused under these circumstances it is due simply to the pharmacological effects of the alcohol!

I have this copied and have now started giving out to all my clients. I always say no alchohol however it is better to have the reasons in writing.

If you have any functions coming up you need to sit down with your CDC and plan the way forward for you as an individual.

If you are on SS, AAM or 810 do not drink any alcohol at all.

Amy and I start to discuss options now with our clients. If they have a lot of things coming up and they do want to take part we review the programmes to take account of that.

Building up through the programmes now gives flexibility over Christmas and New Year then after the festivities back to basics.

For those wishing to stay on SS thats fine, others opt for 810 and avoid alcohol.

CDC's are there to advise you but it is a personal thing so what suits one may not suit another.

Forward planning is the best thing.

Wow, I wouldn't drink as I'd then want a kebab but that's a massive reason not to. It's frightening and I'm pleased you found this and posted it. You could have saved someone's life (sorry for being dramatic but people just think of putting on weight not this)

    BMI Information:
I actually posted a personal warning a few weeks ago as I drank while on SS and I was VERY VERY ill, I was fine for a while and then it hit me very badly and I had to be taken care of by friends, then my husband when I got home. I was very badly sick on the bathroom floor and just wanted to lie in it and be left alone. Now I'm 40 years old and have had a few drunken nights in my life but NOTHING ever like that night, it was very scary. I wasn't thinking of the ketosis part of it but realised drinking alcohol with no food in my body was obviously extremely dangerous. Please everyone take note of the post it is very important

    Hi guys,

I need some advice..its my Birthday coming up next week and i have two meals(Italian I know) and nights out planned which will involved alcohol and food....I really want to eat something and drink...what is the best thing to eat/drink to limit any damage and not be ill from drinking.

I have spoken to my CDC and she said to have my AAMW that week and stick to vodka diet coke...but then I have been reading that it can make you ill..and now I am worried?
    Please help

If you are going to have alcohol a little more than AAM is needed as you will be in ketosis perhaps a few days of AAM then 790 then higher for the days in question then back down the programmes.
