From what people say around 3 days. Some people can get there a bit quicker and some a bit slower.

Haninhudds, you can find 10 different websites that will offer 10 different answers to your question. Some say test in the a.m. as there is a greater concentration of ketones, whilst others say DON'T test in the a.m. as the greater concetration of ketones will give you a false reading. If you feel the need to test, do it your 4th day sometime mid-morning and then get rid of the ketostix. Just be confident that if you follow the diet 100% you will remain in ketosis and testing yourself constantly will only make you frustrated and confused when you have different shades of ketosis from day to day (my own experience of ketostix) I've still got them, and I test myself every few weeks or so, but probably only out of boredom or when I get the odd hunger pang and suddenly panic I MUST BE OUT OF KETOSIS!! But I never am, so save yourself the anguish and good luck

Could anyone shed some light on exactly what you loose while your in ketosis please? I have been told by a nurse today that you lose a lot of muscle as well as fat? Because I have 10 stone to lose I don't want to lose much muscle as I need to try and tone up to TRY and avoid too mush saggy skin! If anyone could offer some advice I'd be grateful. Thanks!

The research I read said that on a proper vlcd about 25% of the weight you lose will be muscle (by weight, obv the muscle takes up much less space) but that this is considered acceptable and that there is some loss of muscle on all diets. The research also said that exercising on a vlcd does not prevent or counteract this muscle loss.

Part of it is - I had muscles (including my heart) which had to be bigger to cope with powering nearly twenty stone of me, now I weigh 13 stone I need smaller muscles to do the same thing.
