After reading a couple of threads it looks like majoriety of ppl are comming back after they have lost weight and regained it
i have come to the conclusion that the cambridge diet is good short term but in the long term do we have to keep putting ourselfs throu this again and again
this is the second time ive come back i did gain a little weight ie half a stone after loosing 2 stone
just a thought.............

I lost a stone last autumn and kept it off despite going back to normal eating over Dec/Xmas and Jan. However I'm now on medication which stopped me putting on weight finally (doesn't help me loose though), so turns out (as I thought all along) my diet did now justify the weight I got to. I think we have to realise and accept this is a battle we have to keep on top off for the rest of our lives.

There's a few people on here have been maintaining for years. And I guess it all depends why you put on the weight in the first place.

No not everyone puts weight on or regain the weight they lost when they finish Cambridge
the main thing to do is follow the plans correctly and stay on maintenance for about 4-7 weeks,
and do not slip back into bad happed i.e getting you where you first started
and if you ask the majority of people who put the back on what they ate after cambridge then it will explain all,
dont worry, as long as you follow the plans CORRECTLY and stay on maintenance for about 4-7 weeks and eat healthily then there should be no problem, although you do put some back on but thats the glycogen stores that make you go into ketosis and thats on the inside and would not make you look any different i.e fatter,

hope this helps, just do it right
i know you can

Hi

People can regain on ANY weight loss plan... i don't think it's exclusive to CD.

I've lost count how many times I joined WW, SW and RC! It got embarrasing in the end!

I've lost the most weight in the quickest amount of time on CD - i put a little weight on over Christmas - but I think nearly EVERYONE did!! So i was fine with that.

I'm not at goal yet, and i've moved up the plans quite sucessfully - losing weight all the way!

In my opinion, CD is the best plan i've ever been on. I am determined not to regain my weight - and I plan on doing that by getting to goal and maintaining.

I hope you are successful in whatever plan you choose to follow.

I think CD is a great diet and if you stick to going up the steps properly then you will succeed. Learning to eat healthily and not fall back into old habits is important.
Like you I saw so many people coming back on here after having put loads of weight back on. This is my first time on CD and seeing all these people say they were back after having put weight on really depressed me. I thought ok so why am I going to be so different from them, I will just put all the weight back on too.
However, as a lovely friend on here pointed out - the thousands who have had success with CD and are now slim, are out and about enjoying their new lives and are not on the forum. We are lucky to have some lovely people who do stay on the forum and help run it and tell us their success stories.
This has made me more determined to go up the steps in the recommended way, learn to eat healthily and spend years afterwards popping back in here to tell people of my success to encourage new people who are struggling.
You will put weight on after any diet if you go back to bad habits. It's the bad habits which got us fat in the first place. We have to learnt o love and respect our bodies and put healthy food in.
So... when I get off this diet I will
- not turn to crisps for a quick fix when hungry while doing a 5 hour teaching stint. I will have something else close to hand and healthy
- I will identify emotional eating and not eat when upset
- I will remind myself that I don't have to finish everything on my plate

It's a long journey. I have 12 stones to lose (I have lost nearly 5 since Sept) but I am going to get there and I am going to enjoy it.

I can read. I can follow instructions. I can think. I am going to follow the 6 steps of CD and I am going to succeed.

I wonder if anyone has the link to the study handy? I believe it is 97% of all dieters that ever reach goal weight put it all back. NO MATTER what plan they are on. That has nothing to do with HOW the weight is lost but whether or not people make the educational effort, the behaviour differences and the every-day decision to keep it off.

The 3% long term success is to me personally a motivator not a deterrent.

Hi Nimi
I did 14 weeks on the LighterLife diet and lost 68 pounds in 2008. I did try and get back onto the diet throughout 2009 but couldn't for various reasons, I only put on a few pounds but lost them too. I think once you have a put a dent into your weight loss, you are always conscious of what your are putting in your mouth. Thats how I dealt with it. However, I have come back to CD to reach my target and must admit I am feeling very positive :)

Good grief - that's a terribly depressing statistic...

I disagree, I think it's a great piece of incentive. Don't you want to be part of the special, tiny percentage? I for one don't want to be like everyone else that put it back.

And what is posted above plays a role too LV30, once you cross that line, where your loss is important enough -to you and however much or little that is- the switch of "I will be keeping this off" turns on and with enough work you become the 3%

I totally agree with you MissAma - I really want to be in that tiny 3% that keeps the weight off! I've lost weight over the years - but not as much as I have on CD - i think if you get down to target it must be such a great incentive to work at it and keep the weight off.

One of the main things that I keep on thinking is that I don't want to spend all that money again!! When you are following WW, SW or RC even tho I used to spend a fortune on food, CD is different ... handing over nearly £40 a week is difficult (but I'm so glad i did!!). Strange - even tho i love CD with all my heart, I don't want to do it again!! lol

(sorry for waffling - again!!).

Yes it is possible...1 year on for me,
there was lots to learn after though, i think if i had returned to pre-cd eating habits then yes it would have returned but I was determined that I wanted to stay slim and healthy. So put lots of effort in to reading books about what makes people overeat which helped as well as following the steps to the end.
If I can do it anyone can
Good luck everyone!

Lynne the only person who has control of whether you gain weight is you I'm afraid, the dieting part is the easy part, maintaining is the difficult part.
Your CDC will support you with your weight loss and also with the maintenance of your new weight when you get to where you want to be. Hopefully you'll be part of the 3% (along with me of course!) :D
Good luck x

The fact that a large percentage of people are said to put the weight back on is not down to chance - there isn't a god of Fat and a god of Slimness casting a dice over each one of us, or a big 'lottery' finger pointing to all but a random few - we all have the choice of whether to revert to old habits or whether to make an effort to eat with better choices.
Everyone can also say that they 'maintain' their losses, although some maintain by swinging upwards and downwards by ten stone or more, while others catch it early when they are only 5 or 6 pounds over their target weight. I want to be in the 'early' group so coming down again is not so much of a mission.
Strange - even tho i love CD with all my heart, I don't want to do it again!! lol
I'm with you Lynn, I put in too much effort and money to go through it again
:)

Agreed, wholeheartedly. And it's not just about behaviours. For all sorts of mad scientific reasons concerning hormones, one of which is leptin, once you've been overweight, you're going to be predisposed to regaining the lost weight for some time. It apparently takes the body a long time to reset. Which only makes the behaviour modification bit even more tricky to deal with. It's not just about people being greedy.

And of course, the other thing I kind of feel compelled to say is that those people who have successfully lost weight and kept it off would have no reason to keep posting in this particular forum, would they? :D

They'll be in the Maintenance forum (well worth a look for some truly inspirational folks).

Hi nimi

I lost weight last year with CD. I came off the diet and did not do the maintenance, so I regained a lesser proportion of my overall loss. However, I am of the opinion that the re-gain would have occured had I been on Weightwatchers, Slimming World or any other diet. Infact one of my friend's has been doing SW at same time as me doing CD, and she had similar regain after her Christmas/New Year dieting break.

Like all diets, one must follow the rules for maintenance, which I am committed to doing this time, hence I have 100% confidence in Cambridge Diet.

Good Luck nima, we can all enjoy great losses on CD, and on-going health and happiness with life after CD, best wishes x

Yep, yep, yep etc etc :D

I put on weight after every diet I did, and I did them all.

This time I haven't. Would love to say it's because of the diet I did this time around, but afraid it isn't. I maintained because I want to maintain more than put it on again.

It's something you really have to be committed to, rather than just interested (or even disinterested). If you have a level of interest, but not commitment, then like dieting, you'll only do it when it suits.

Unfortunately, unlike diets it's not short term. You have to learn how to do it and do it so many times that it feels unnatural not to.

Coming up to two years for me. Agree with everything that has already been said. The diet is irrelevant, weight can be regained or kept off regardless of which method you used to lose it. It comes down to a life long committment to change your relationship with food.
