Yes I Did The Cambridge Diet Right Through Ramadan! This is how? (Fasting with CD)

Hello All,

Intro

I am doing this post because I have been on the CD diet for 11 weeks now, during this time I had to fast for the Holy Month of Ramadan, before Ramadan started I looked all over the internet to see if anyone had attempted to the CD during Ramadan. Unfortunately there was limited information on the web whereby people had only tried it for a week or not in the UK making their fasting day shorter. Hence I didn’t have the full information I needed. People had tried it in Singapore during Ramadan but day was much shorter for them in the year they did it.

I have by the will of God got through the month of Ramadan on just Cambridge Shakes, Porridges and 3 Liters of water, Therefore I decided to write something for people in my position who may want to do the same diet in the future during Ramadan as I didn’t want to stop for Ramadan as I felt either I would gain weight or not be able to go back on it.
The reason why I went on the CD diet because my weight went out of control dramatically whereby I put on 6 stones in a year. Whereby my partner said I had cheated on her because when I met her, I was half the man I am now. This kind of got to me and motivated me to take action.

Background

I would anticipate that majority of people may know what Ramadan is otherwise they may not be searching for a thread like this however I will give you the background if you have stumbled across this thread or just interested.

Ramadan is a month for Muslims whereby they fast for 30 days during day light hours; We are only allowed to eat before sunrise and after sunset. We have to refrain from Food, Water and Sexual Relations during the fast. The time of which Ramadan occurs is based on the sighting of the moon and goes back 11 days every year. Therefore this year Ramadan started in the UK on 21st July and ended 19th August 2012. At the start of the month the Fast closed at Approximately 03:15hrs (am) and opened at 21:20hrs (pm) makes this roughly 18hours without food and drink. This varied cross the country and the world based on the sunrise and sunset in their country/county.

Luckily I work for the government who accommodate for religious values and I was therefore allowed to change my shifts to work late’s as the type of work Is 24/7. So this method may not be easy for some people but for me I changed majority of my shifts from working 12:00hrs to 22:00hrs. This allowed me to stay awake during the night between 22:00hrs(pm) to 04:00hrs (am). I was sleeping from 04:30hrs(am) to 11:15hrs (am) which was sometimes enough sleep and sometime not which I then made up on a day off.
The Method

I basically opened fast at 21:15hrs (pm) and drank one 1 liter of water followed by a Chocolate Milkshake (readymade carton). (This time changed by 1 or 2 mins everyday going backwards meaning the last fast opened at 20:26hrs) (pm). I then had my next 1 liter water at Midnight 00:01hrs (am) followed by porridge about 15 to 10 minutes after the water. I sometimes had the water in one whole sitting another times used a whole hour prior, to drink it up. I then had 500ml water at 0200hrs (am) followed by another porridge and lastly the fast closed at approximately 0330hrs(am) so I had my last 500ml of water about 0300hrs(am) followed by my last Cambridge shake at 03:25ish(am). So during the night I had 4 CD products and 3 Liters of water.

I did this every day for 29 days with the times tweaked by 15 / 20 mins as the day got shorter. The fasting day was long and for the first 3 to 4 days it was hard but after that I was used to it without any issues mainly because I knew I couldn’t break my fast an eat or drink during the day. I believe any diet is 90% mentally and 10% physical. I must admit when my family broke fast and made samosas and Pakoras and other such luxury oily food things got tempting but I kept reminding myself the temptation is only in the mind an I need to prove to myself I can do this If I want.

Conclusion

With will and grace of God I got through it! and when I saw my consultant on 17/07/2012 which was just few days before Ramadan began I weighed 17stone an 2llb I have seen my consultant today and I weighed 15stone an 12llb which means I lost just over 1 stone in a month. I started at 19stone an 10lb when I first started in June 2012.

My post is long but I hope it will shed some light for people who were/are in my position for the future as I didnt find enough info when I was doing my CD Ramadan research.
