    Smile My first post and a question

    Hi,
    It took me forever to find this site, and I am so glad.

    I just completed week 2 and and down 12.5 pounds. In ketosis and loving it. Miss my food, but I'm not physically hungry.

    My question is: where did my period go? I was supposed to start right at the beginning of the diet. Now, I'm 2 weeks late and I KNOW I am NOT pregnant!

    Is this common?

    Sorry my first post is a TMI question, but it's starting to bother me.

    TIA for all responses.

    Pam

    Hi Pam,

    Well done on your 12.5 pounds

    This does seem to be a very common side effect.

    Does the ‘Sole Source’ programme affect the menstrual cycle?
    Hormone levels fluctuate when there are changes in weight – particularly in women. For most, the menstrual cycle is not affected, but some women experience increased activity and breakthrough bleeding may occur. Others may find that their periods stop for a while. Once target weight is reached and weight loss ceases, the metabolic rate will adjust to a new level appropriate to the new weight, and the hormones will settle down and find their own pattern again

    Well done on your loss. I've only had 2 periods in 17 weeks (and those only lasted 2 days) which I thought was a real bonus to the diet!!!! Its because alot of female hormones are stored in your abdominal fat, so when you start losing abdominal fat it plays havoc with the normal functions. Once you've finished, you should get back to normal again!
    Wk 1 = 7.6 Wk 2 = 7.4 Wk 3 = 3.3
    Wk 4 = 2.8 Wk 5 = 5.5 Wk 6 = Ill
    Wk 7 = 6.6 Wk 8 = 3.3 Wk 9 = 2.8
    Wk10 = 2.7 Wk11 = 5.6 Wk12 = 0.8
    Wk13 = 5.0 Wk14 = 3.3 Wk15 = 3.3
    Wk16 = 0.8 Wk17 = 2.2 Wk18 = 4.4
    Wk19 = 2.4 Wk20 = 1.5 Wk21 = Hols
    Wk22 = 3.9 TOTAL LOSS = 75lbs!

    Target Reached - 9st on 20.02.08
    Aim = to stay at 9st (126lb) for rest of my life!

    Management (weighed on a Tuesday):
    Wk 1 = 124 Wk 2 = 121.2 Wk 3 = 119.4 Wk 4 = 118 Wk 5 = 117 Wk 6 = 115.6 Wk 7 = 115 Wk 8 = 116 Wk 9 = 117 Wk 10 = 117 Wk 11 = 117

    Ticker reflects my daily weight - so will show daily fluctuation
