    Lydia's Dreams......

Hi everyone I'm Lydia. I am a 32 year old living in the UK. I am wife to Tim, mummy to George (10), second mummy to our 7 month old golden retriever puppy called Lady and work as a holistic therapist.

I have named my blog Lydia's dreams as I want somewhere to write down my life's ups and downs whilst on the cambridge diet. Ultimately my dream is to be healthy and happy and for Tim and George to be well, safe and happy too and in order to improve certain areas of our lives I really need to get down to a healthy weight and size. I know being slim is not going to solve all of our struggles but if I am happy in myself I will be better armed for the things I can not control.

I have been overweight most of my life. I was a size 14 at 13yrs old and was a size 18 when I conceived George at 21yrs old. I was always big but carried it well and as I am tall I didn't look too bad. After I had George and I gave up work I found my weight baloon. Maybe out of boredom as I was at home a lot or maybe because I was by the fridge all day. George was a wonderful little baby and I was happy but I am anxious by nature and eat to calm my nerves. By the time George was 1 I was 20st 8lbs and a size 22-24. George is now 10 and I am a size 26-28 on bottom and 22 on top and I weight 23 1/2 St!!!

I have successfully lost and gained weight about 4-5 times over the years but as soon as I am slim I go back to eating and drinking wine the way I did before and the weight piles back on and my self esteem plummets. I am what people would call a yoyo dieter and the shame and embarassment that goes along with that title is so much to carry. I have ended up giving up my job and life because I don't want people to see how big I have got again in the space of a year or two. I feel they are laughing at me as they prefer me big.

I no longer want to be a yo yo dieter and I can't accept being this size and weight. I need to fight this battle once and for all accept that it is not a plan for a few months but it will be a lifestyle change. I need to learn about myself along the way. Before I only wanted to be slim for my ego but now I am older it is so so much more than that. I want to be around for my son and grandchildren and I dont want to get poorly with diabetes etc. that's assuming I don't have it already!
my back and knees hurt, my feet are crushing under the weight. My skin and hair are dull and I look and feel half dead! Strong thing to say but it's very true. I can't lay on my side as I crush my lungs and I can't even go out as I have broken a few chairs and the embarrassment is so awful! I think I am also getting rosacea. Because I have a real hatred towards myself at the mo I make no effort with myself and our sex life is non existent which is causing a lot of stress in our marriage. I won't go out anywhere and live in one top and one pair of jeans.

To to top it off my drinking and smoking are getting out of control too. I drink 1 bottle of wine a night, sometimes two if one is a Lambrusco type and I've started smoking up to 5 cigarettes a day which is mad because I don't like or enjoy smoking and it makes me feel dizzy! I am in such a rut.

Because I have always put my weight back on I have lost some enthusiasm and belief in myself. I think I need to learn and move on from the past and stop holding on to it so firmly and in such a destructive way. Maybe I wasn't meant to succeed then, maybe things do happen for a reason, maybe now things are different and I am different this should be a fresh start not clouded by the past.

I really want tomorrow to be the start of something different.............

    love Lyds Xx

    Hi Lyds,

Aw you poor thing I feel so sorry for you :'(

You've done the first step as you've acknowledged your problems and now you're doing something about them. Are you starting Cambridge ss tomorrow? It's worked really well for me and I have seen many people on these forums who have lost a lot of weight very quickly and are turning their lives around.

I wont lie to you, the first few days are hard going but after about day 4 I promise you it gets better, you just don't feel hungry any more.

Good luck and keep us updated.

Aww you'll find lots of support and friends on this site all encouraging each other along you wont be alone in this.

I reckon you'll be a new lady in a couple of months, it's amazing how a weight loss can alter your whole being. I've not lost a massive amount but my husband said only yesterday that he's not seen me smile that way for a while so it just goes to show.

Hi and welcome You ve made the 1st step and this can only help. Cambridge is good as it takes food and drink out of the equation. Use the time to really examine why you fall into the patterns you do. We all have our own. Personally I like to break it down into small chunks 1st day, 1st week 1st stone this works for me as im a bit overwhelmed otherwise. How we look is so wrapped up in our self-esteem but please don t let it be the only marker that you use. Physically you’re trapped by your body just now but you can change this I so relate to this, can remember it too well. People aren t laughing sure some will be make comments that is one of our darker sides but do you know what: **** em! They don’t walk in your shoes and behind this sort of behaviour you often find they have their own issues but happiness doesn t come from hurting others. hold your head up and start looking for all the things that make you a good person even if you don t believe it, fake it til you make it. So take this time to evaluate your relationship with food and enjoy watching the changes but remember this is a game of two halves body and mind don t forget the mind I think it is so important Good luck and the first week ain t good but hold on it gets better jenx

Hey Lydia, like the others I just wanted to welcome you to the Cambridge diet and second what has been said already, as hard as it may be you need to forget about the past and not let it hold you back and acknowledge that YOU have made the choice to change and better yourself for health and your family and that should be celebrated in itself as it is not an easy step to make, so well done!!! And remember you are not alone on this journey and using this site is absolutely great for those challenging days when temptation seems to be everywhere and reading through the posts I have found is a great motivation. We all have reasons as to why we selected Cambridge and I found it helpful to write mine down and place them in sight, as I am great at avoiding the issue hence why my weight got to the weight I was and like yourself, I found myself hiding away and avoiding people, outings and wearing the same leggings and top (which I can’t wait to throw away lol). I have also been a yoyo dieter losing weight then gaining it all back and more and what I find with CD is its totally different to everything I have tried before and for me the simplicity of the diet and the fact that if your 100% you will see results is great, and while I still have a lot of weight to lose one thing I have noticed is the amount of control I have which gives me so much confidence and that I now look at food in a completely different light. At 17.3 never would I have thought I could do this diet or even stay on it for longer than a few weeks and the first time round I only managed 2 weeks then went off the diet, so setting yourself small goals are a good idea as it can be daunting. After two weeks of going off the rails I returned and this time I am almost 10 weeks in, have SS’ed all the way and lost 46lbs and the craziest thing is the energy it gives you, I already feel like a different person and so will you. Tomorrow is a new start for you and I wish you all the best on the journey, the first few days you may find hard but stick with it and when ketosis comes knocking you will feel so much better and then it’s all about mind over matter!! And keep in touch letting us know how things are going?
