    The 100k step challenge!

    Hi everyone!

    I've seen a couple of old threads with people talking about pedometers and walking a certain amount of steps each day, so I thought I'd start a new thread with a new challenge! All you need to take part is a pedometer!

    It's common knowledge that you are supposed to walk 10,000 steps a day to help stay fit. I wonder how many people actually do this? I know I don't.

    My challenge to you all is to count up your steps everyday, and see how quickly you hit 100k - ten thousand steps!

    If you do the 10k a day you're supposed to, this should only take ten days. I think a good starting point would be to get to 100k in two weeks - around 7,150 a day. If you think this is still too much, just keep counting and see how long it takes you to hit the target

    Walking has great health benefits, not just for losing weight but for generally keeping fit and keeping active. 10,000 steps can equate to walking about five miles, and you can burn up to 500 calories!

    Once you've hit 100k, why not see if you can beat your record and get your next 100k in a quicker time?

    Personally, I have been using a pedometer since I started my diet on Monday. I have literally just kept it in my pocket and forgotten about it, and not made a point of taking any extra steps. Here are my results for this week so far:

    Monday - 5775
    Tuesday - 5911
    Wednesday - 7673
    Total so far: 19,359

    I did a bit of shopping around Sainsbury's yesterday, and that is why the figure is higher than the others - nearly 2000 steps!

    I can't believe how many steps I actually take, I thought it would be a lot less than I actually do. I found it interesting that there is 1000 steps between my front door and my bus stop on a morning - just under 10 mins walk.

    If I was doing 100k in two weeks, I'd need 21,450 so far to be on target. I've surprised myself to find out I'm only 2000 steps below target

    Yesterday I got a lift home from work, so I lost the 1000 or so steps I usually get there. Still, 4 days and nearly 25,000 steps, I'm almost a quarter of the way there already

    That's great Rosie_Lee! I know, it's amazing how much you actually walk without realising. At that rate you will get to 100k in no time

    I had a brilliant day yesterday. On top of my usual daily routine, I walk into the city center at night, had a night out then walked home again, resulting in:

    Friday - 14,442
    Total so far: 38,931

    I'm really happy with this! Hopefully all this walking will counteract the couple of rums I had while I was out! It's boosted my total up so much, brought me back on target for 100k in two weeks

    that's brill leigh,i'm sure your rum should have disappeared with walking so far xxx

    i felt rubbish yesterday so didn't do much at all but still managed 4320.
    i will be walking in and around town tomorrow so should be able to boost the amount i'm doing.

    the challenge seemed a bit daunting at first but when you realise how much you're already doing it doesn't seem so bad.

    I hope so! Over 4,000 is still great for an off day, and you're over 10% of the way there already

    For me:

    Saturday - 6269
    Total so far: 45,200

    I went shopping again yesterday and walked from my boyfriends to mine, but that's pretty much all I did, so I'm impressed I got over 6,000. Just need to get over 4,800 today to be on target, but must admit it's not been particularly busy so far!

    And yes Rosie_Lee you're right, it does seem like a massive challenge but once you know what your daily average is it's just a case of being more aware of how much you're walking and adding in those extra few steps

    Yesterday I didn't do much except wander up to the shops to return something, but still managed to count 4,248 steps. I've done more already so far today! I did more than that while I was wandering around the house in my PJs but I don't know how many so I don't want to add anymore.

    i think i did too much yesterday,i have arthritis and my back and knees kicked up in bed last night.
    was going to walk to town again today but hubby going to take me in car because i have to walk there tomorrow.
    thought i'd have a bit of a rest today and not do as much and not doing much at weekend either.

    so yesterday i was wandering about paying bills , visiting mum and then walked to the hospital to visit my aunt,ped said 7.5 miles
