30 day shred anyone?

I had a sneaky midweek peek on the scales yesterday and to my horror I have put a lb on despite having been really good.

This has prompted me into action, so I got up early this morning and started the 30 day shred. I've never done it before, but heard from lots of people that if you stick to it you can really see a difference.

For anyone who doesn't know the 30 day shred is a 25 minute intense workout that you do daily. You can buy the DVD or it is available on you tube. Basically you do level 1 for 10 days, then level 2 for 10 days and then level 3 for 10 days and at the end of it you can lose up to 20lb, but more importantly you should lose inches from waist, thighs, hips, arms etc and be much more toned. It's based on circuits including strength, abs and cardio. Most people seem to think you don't get a day off, but I also read that you should take a rest day every 7th day. All you need is a bit of space at home and some small weights/dumbbells ( I used can of tomatoes this morning as I didn't want to us the excuse of not having any for not getting started.

I didn't find it as hard as I thought I would, although the abs section was hardest for me. I was trying to pace myself at the start though so I could do it all. I felt so good afterwards I even did a mile on the treadmill, so I might go for it a bit more tomorrow. I'm now at my desk and work and feeling really full of energy, although I'm expecting to feel it all over tomorrow.

Anybody want to join me in doing it for a bit of support, or anybody done it before and can give me any advise?

Thanks x

Ok, so I managed to get up early and do the shred before work.

I can definitely feel it from yesterday, especially in my arms.

Getting out of bed to do it was hard today, especially as I was later to bed than normal. I must remember to get some early nights.

Once I was up and doing it I quite enjoyed it in a kind of perverse way, and still had enough energy for a quick half mile on the treadmill afterwards. It's funny but I have been struggling to get up early to go on the treadmill, but give myself a "you must do this workout every day" rule and suddenly I want to get on the treadmill as well.

I bought some weights yesterday. A small set of girlie "Davina" weights. I used the lightest ones which are only 600g. On some exercise this was plenty and I was struggling, but there are a few exercises where I think I could push on to the next weight 1kg. I will try it tomorrow. As Jillian says you can't expect to workout for only 20 minutes a day and for it to be easy. Need to push myself to get results.

I'm finding the cardio part of the workout quite easy and pushed myself a bit more today to jump higher and faster and follow Natalie. The strength stuff, some I need to work on more. I still have to rest between press ups so I need to work on these, and I think I need to work on my squats as I'm struggling with form. The abs part of the workout is the hardest for me. Luckily for me it's also the shortest. I hope I can build this up in the next week so I don't have to stop at all during sets.

Head is still in the zone so hope I can keep it there!

Day 3 and I'm still going...anyone else feel free to join in at any time!!

The shred was hard this morning. I was pushing myself hard in the cardio section and my muscles are protesting in the strength and abs sections. I went up a level on the weights for the arm raises and some of the lunges and boy could I feel the burn! I'm still stuggling with push up and abs.

On the bright side the dress I am wearing at work today is definitely loser than it was a month ago, and at weigh in I managed to drop 1lb despite being a pound up a few days ago.

I will do this thing!!

I've bought the shred DVD but too scared to start!b

Come on goose. It won't do you any good in the box...what's the worst that can happen?

I've completed 6 days and I'm taking a rest day today which I'm hoping will allow me to continue with more energy tomorrow. Plan to go for a nice long walk later to get some exercise (body magic) in without tiring myself too much.

Haha!!! I thibk i may just open it n watch it whilst having a cuppa first!!! See wat im letting myself in for! Xx

Well I had 3 days off as I decided to take a rest day and then I wasn't very well. I was back to it this morning though.

I'm getting a bit bored of doing the same things but I have now done 7 days of level 1 so only a few more days and I can move to level 2.

Goose - did you get as far as taking the DVD out of the box?

Day 1 of part two this morning, except I only managed two circuits as I was running late.

It was so nice to find some new exercises to do. I'm thinking I might try mixing up the 3 sections so I never have to do the same one on the trot day after day...that was driving me mad.

I'm trying very lo cal day today 600 odd cals

Don't think I'm quite ready for this.. But DO think I need to do X amount of pushups or ...exercise in general at home to help get rid of these stones :p xxx

Hi, I've been having a few days off (I was wearing some shorts on the treadmill that rode up and I chaffed my legs - don't laugh - so I'm having a few days off from exercising to try to sort them out as I keep making them worse)

However, I do think that having done some light dumb bell work etc has helped me as I do seem to be losing quite nicely at the moment despite a few slips of the wagon. I put this down tot he fact that I have built a bit of muscle which helps burn calories quicker

Well I am definitely one of Jillian Michaels biggest fans:D. I have been doing the 30 day shred for just over a year and I love it. It's short and to the point and it does exactly what it says it will. There are 3 levels and I only ever do the 1st work out. As far as I'm concerned this is more than adequate for my purposes ( I just want to be slim and toned not muscular). So I definitely recommend it, well the first workout anyway. Did you find that when you first started that you had sore knees? For anyone beginning this workout, what I would suggest is to make sure you learn the exercises correctly to avoid hurting yourself. I'm sure that's the same for any work out though

Yes I opened the pack and watched part one... Just watched lol!! Not done yet! Need to get my sports bra n gym stuff out than i will start. Wasnt as scary as i thought it would be!

I started a thread in the exercise forum for a 30 day shred challenge! No wonder no-one answered me, I was in the wrong place. :D

I need to start doing it again. I want to do it for September as today is the beginning and September has 30 days, I'll start again today.

So how are you getting on with the shred? Hope it's working out for you. If you have given up on it (which I did at first then went back), you might want to try it without the weights. I only do the first workout and only use the weights for the dumbell row and the one where you lie on the ground and lift your arms up to your chest (chest wise or something) anyway, that's totally worked out for me and my arms are still defined enough. Just want to give hope to you and others who may be struggling with this cos it's a bit too hard in my opinion but if you tailor it down then it still gives good results as the basic exercises to tone up the entire body are there in just the first session. However, I would say you do have to do it at least 5 times per week for very good results (but that's not even difficult anyway).
