Hey everyone!

I'm just wandering what y'all think of the Fat Acceptance Movement (FAM)? It's come to my attention after reading some blogs, and to be honest I'm not quite sure what I think of it. On the one hand, I've heard many successful losers and maintainers say that it's important to like yourself when you're fat in order to really appreciate your progress and be happy with yourself as you slim down. On the other hand there's the argument that accepting fat makes one complacent and reduces the desire to change.

So what do we think about FAM? Good or bad? Pick a poll option and let me hear your thoughts below!

I think it's important that someone should, ideally, have the self-esteem accept and love themselves, but I've read some "fat acceptance" blogs and I think they tend to indulge in delusion, like that militant baker one.

Accepting yourself doesn't mean you shouldn't try to change. That's just what I think anyway.

I'm a Tumblr addict and I see a lot of things such as this. Don't think I've ever seen it called FAM though. I see a lot of body positive posts/blogs. Anti fat shaming and Fatshion (they all look fab, I want their clothes! lol). It's larger people basically saying I'm large and I love it, my body has nothing to do with you. I think those people are actually great! If they love themselves the way they are, then brill! Just because someone is big, doesn't necessarily mean they're unhealthy either, I've also seen large yoga blogs too :) I think if you feel good, not in pain or in great danger (such as morbid obesity :S) then fine, work that big booty lol :D

I think many people got a different definition of far. I have witnessed many girls calling themselves as fat even though they are just size 12?!!??!

Since fat is a very vague term nowadays, I would say any woman, who got a BMI of 27.5 and over should accept themselves as fat.

Fat shouldn't mean they are being ugly nor low value human-beings, but fat means having a very higher chance of getting involved with x-different illness. Fat people should accept themselves as fat and try to shed the pounds in a healthy way. Obviously it's very difficult (I am also a fat woman, so I know how hard it is). But if you accept your fat in a positive way and lose yourself in plus size fashion, then you will gain more self-confidence and won't be motivated to lose weight.

Therefore fat people should accept themselves as fat in a rather matter-of-fact way, like 'Yes, I am fat, I can see how it is reflecting my health or will be reflect my life 10-20 years later, so now it's time to change it'.
BMI range – kg/m[SUP]2[/SUP]Health Risk
27.5 and aboveHigh risk of developing heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, diabetes
23.0 to 27.4Moderate risk of developing heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, diabetes
18.5 to 22.9Low Risk (healthy range)
18.4 and belowRisk of developing problems such as nutritional deficiency and osteoporosis

By the way I have voted for I feel neutral about FAM.

I agree with the definition of fat. If you are unhealthy there is no way in the world you should accept it. Yes love yourself, your personality but no way should anyone love being fat. Why would I love being unhealthy and not attractive.
