What is a Mum

A mother was sitting and thinking alone
What is a mum when her children are gone
Their need isn’t constant it comes and it goes
But mum will be there for them everyone knows

They’ve friends and relationships she has no part
But always she holds them so deep in her heart
She’s loved them and nurtured them she’s done her best
But is it enough when it's put to the test

What trials await her, what joys are in store
Will she soar to the heavens or fall on the floor
Will they trust her when things are not well in their lives
Will she get on with grandchildren husbands and wives

If grandchildren come what role will she have
Will it be of fulfilment or frustrated love
And will anyone know how she feels when she’s spurned
Even though she’s forgotten far more than they’ve learned

A mother was sitting and thinking alone
What is a mum when her children are gone
She’s someone who waits for a need to arise
She’s someone who wishes that she could be wise
