I love roast onions, but its in the back of my mind that because they go so sweet we are not allowed on Dukan.....But now I can find out where I read it. Hope this is a false memory and Ideas Dukaneers xxx Thanks in advance.

Can't say I ever remember reading that - I love roast onions and often have them xx roast onions and steak - yum yum :) xx

Like you, Sidd... I'm sure I've read it somewhere too. It's probably one of the stricter original rules which have since fallen by the wayside. On PV, I can't (now) see any reason for such a rule but perhaps it used to be said because some would exaggerate their onion consumption on PP days...

Thanks Girls, getting myself reorganised and ready for the January 6th restart and dry January xxx

I've just been on the official site and read the onion page. As far as I can see roast onions are fine.

Taken from Dr D himself.........

In France, it is difficult for a cook to work without using any garlic, onions, salt or pepper. Once the onion has been cooked enough to get rid of its sulphur, (this is what stings makes you cry and makes your breath smelly), they can actually be mild, even sweet with a caramelized flavor. By cooking onions slowly over gentle heat you can transform them into onion confit and for that matter, you may as well go ahead and make onion marmelade. It's the onion's sweetness that is so useful, especially for anyone dieting who is tortured by not having any sugar. This sweet taste comes from the fructose which has a sweetening ability more powerful than that of sugar.

And the most important part "Onions can be also be cooked in the oven,"

Roast away Sid!!x

I am salivating xxx

I guess they're like butternut squash which tastes so deceitfully yummy and sweet when the natural sugars caramelise, but is still ok on pv days. There is still something in my mind about the proportion of veg to protein on pv days to maintain successful loss though - no more than 1/3 veg to 2/3 protein on your plate was the advice at one stage? I remember feeling massively cheated cos I love my veg and i was convinced my book said unlimited veg from the approved list. But I'm sure a roast onion with a steak is ok, in fact I might go for that myself later in the week!
