I made icecream, I made icecream!!!!!!!!

It took 15 minutes and I am eating it RIGHT now.

Robert Dyas has a sale on "nuo" kirchen gadgets, and the icecream maker was only 14.99

So when I got home today I got the bowl out, started it up and tipped in about half a pot of zero-greek yogurt, and a pot of mullerlight toffee.

15 minutes later - a bowl full of tangy, creamy, cold, fluffy ice-cream!

I am ridiculously excited - I still have some in the freezer - I'm tempted to take it to bed with me, and eat it while watching a movie!

I have a simple hand-cranked ice cream maker I bought in my student days - still works! I used to make super strawberry yoghurt ice cream (with real strawberries), I guess I can revive that habit now! We also have a ZOKU instant ice lolly maker, the kids love it! I just pour in some skimmed milk (full fat for them), sweetened and vanilla for me, flavoured with choc or strawberry Nesquick (I know I know...) for them. Hey presto - three happy people. Shame it permanently takes up space in the freezer now...
    Zoku Quick Pop
And no, I have not tried any of the more adventurous 'recipes' depicted on the web site. Tried embedding banana slices once but it's quite tricky and ended in (nevertheless edible) 'disaster'...

My dad did exactly the same thing when he was a student in the 50s! - he didn't even have a fridge in his bedsit, but he found an icecream churn in a junk shop, bought ice from wherever people used to buy ice from, and made icecream with whatever fruit he could get cheap when the market closed.

I bought mine in Robert Dyas, the UK hardware chain.

At the moment I can see icecream makers on Amazon for around 25-30, so the 15 might have been a one off.

I've used mine almost every day since I bought it - lemon, toffee, rhubarb, rose, peppermint, coffee, even chocolate (tsp of fat-free cocoa) once

Hi Atropros, I know this is an old thread but I found it by googling. Very surprised to see a Dukan minimins post by googling for ice cream makers!

I am wanting to buy one after I buy a yogurt maker tomorrow. I don't want to spend a lot of money and noticed the one in Robert Dyas. Can you tell me if you need to freeze the bowl of this maker prior to using it? I would prefer to buy one where this isn't necessary. Would you still recommend this ice cream maker?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Yes - you need to freeze the bowl.

As far as I am aware there is no "self-freeze" maker available under 150.00

    Thank you.

After posting this, I looked into it further, didn't realise the ones that didn't need freezing before hand were so expensive. Definitely not worth it in my case.

Think I will get the Robert Dyas one since you like it so much, must work well with 0 fat yogurt. Thanks again.
