Total Solution Porridge

I've just made my first porridge and I think I must have done something wrong. It was really weirdly lumpy and had a horrible consistency. Any tips for improving it?

I had the plain porridge yesterday and I've just finished the apple and cinnamon, both are pretty poor - I ended up drinking them?! I think some of the lumps are supposed to imitate porridge oats..?

It seems to make a bit of a difference whether/how much you stir them when they come out of the microwave, but I think I'm going to switch to the recipe ideas for the shakes, lattes etc, for breakfast once I've used up the porridge I've got.

Hope it's all going well!

I had my first Porridge this morning, I mixed it in the shaker bottle first then put it in a bowl it heat it up. It only had a few small lumps and as Cherryhead has said i think they were suposed to imitate porridge oats. I made it up with slighly less water and it was quite nice.

Hey, thanks for the input both.

On my second attempt I used a blender before microwaving it and it was much better although still weird. I'll try less water tomorrow I think. I also think that there won't be any porridge on my next order. ....

I keep hearing rumours of making biscuits with it. Could such wonders possibly be true? :D

I saw a recipe for biscuits made from the porridge, I think it might've been on the lighterlife threads - you make it up as a paste, I can't remember if you bake or microwave it though, sorry.

Thanks lovely. I actually swapped most of mine with a nice girl on a fb group. I might try biscuits with what is left.

Had a new idea this morning.

I split / mix alot of my meal packets. So today I added 10g of chocolate shake to a pack of normal porridge. An idea I got from the old army ration packs. (Mixing chocolate drinking powder with the rolled oats mix)

It was really nice, just have to remember to add slightly less water to the shake later on today.

Ha! I remember rat packs (ex RN)

With the porridge I always use less water than it says you need - I find quite a lot of the packets recommend more water than is needed actually. I use 150ml and it comes out a lot thicker and tastier. X

I just tried my first porridge. It didn't come out well at all so now I'm a pack down on my first day. I'll definately try these tips when making my next one tomorrow.x

If peeps here don't like porridge i will happily swap it as its my fave!

I am still not getting on with the shepherds pie either, no matter what's done to it :-/

I have to admit - i like the porridge too

I have the apple and cinnamon porridge and i hate it! I loved the shepards pie though! My fave is the spag bol, I could just eat that forever lol! I found the choc bars to be a bit gooey? x

Bleurgh! Still can't get on with the sheperds pie :sign0137: I don't mind the spag bol but I could eat the porridge all the time - any flavour! Think I will just buy a box of porridge next time tbh.....

I bet you like the turkey dinner too? Shout if you want to swap as I am about to stick a load on Ebay this morning otherwise! Oh those and the mushroom risotto as I find that totally vile - they need to make it chicken risotto! lol

I don't like mushrooms so have never tried the risotto :) I haven't tried turkey dinner either lol! How many shepards pie do you have? Your only in warrington? I could meet you as I am just along the m62 xx

That sounds good to me :) will have to count the sheperds pies but a good few...... gimme 10 mins or so. I am on the outskirts off Warrington just off the E.Lancs so can't be too far. I swapped some stuff with a lady from Blackburn the other day - its all about the swaps! Finding foods you like on this diet is imperative I think!

I think I have 11 - the consistency was fine but the taste threw me lol! I couldn't eat half of it! -- Its no fun if you don't enjoy them lol! x

Whilst I am looking is there anything else you want to try? Curry? (not had them yet so can't advise - only got them couple days ago but I am not a huge curry fan anyway, was just in the pack I got!), Christmas pudding shake (my fave when hot!), or any soups or anything?

p.s.the choc bars are currently my fave - try putting them in the fridge or freezing them :)

I have 10 sheperds pie I think - poss 11.... I have pouches blummin everywhere!!

I have 3 currys, I haven't tried one yet, was going to try chilli tonight and curry tomorrow, I have banana, choc, choc mint, toffee caramel shakes, and then i have toffee and choc bars. - Thanks for the advice with the bars, my mum said to whack them in the freezer too as it was so gooey and rich last night lol! I dont mind, will try anything once, whatever you don't want/need - anything has to be better than that! I think it was the cinnamon, which is weird as i love cinnamon lol!! x
