To cheat or not to cheat...

Hi

I know this is a long way off, but I'm going to a family party in march. It's at an Indian restaurant and there's a set menu, lots of yummy curry...the restaurant are charging per head (as we have exclusive use) so even if I don't eat my meal will be paid for. I've had a look at the menu, and because I'm veggie there's not really anything I can have that I think will keep me in ketosis, even if I was to ask them to make me something off the set menu.

I was was just wondering if any of you have had planned (or unplanned...) cheat days and how it affected your weightloss? Also whether it's as bad getting in to ketosis again, or getting back on track with the diet at all.

I'll be about 2 months into the diet by then, and really don't want to ruin my hard work! I'm trying to decide whether I should just not eat anything (I don't mind doing this, as my family know I'm on the diet anyway) or if one day off isn't the end of the world??

I'd say that it depends on the person, I'm great doing TS as long as I stick to it, in the past if I had a day off it would then turn into a week off and then usually only be carried on in a half hearted way whereas others can have a day off/a meal out and get straight back onto it, sadly I've never managed that.

i find that when i cheat, i hit the treadmill for an hour[ normally i do 20 minutes 4 times a week[, but on the day i cheat, and the next day, i do extra exercise. like this i normalise and burn off the extra carbs. but its a slippery road, 1 cheat meal becomes a cheat night, leading to a another cheat day, and before you know it you're out of ketosis and putting on water weight. try to avoid it at all. but like your "planned meal" is a month away. i wouldn't worry too much. unless you've had cheated many times before that, lol. stick to it 100%, when the day comes, eat healthy, and exercise the extra carbs off later in the day. be weary about your stomach though, it might not like a sudden meal after a vlcd, so be prepared to take some Imodium!

I think that's what I'm worried about, I won't know how well I'll handle it until I actually do it. It's the same for everyone though I guess. But the last thing I want is to fall off the wagon when I'll hopefully be so close to my goal.

so far I haven't had any cheat days, but it's not even week 6 yet so I have a long way to go! I hadn't even thought about the dodgy tummy! That could be really awkward... I'm not sure I would have your will power and get on the treadmill afterwards to cancel it out.

I reckon I'll probably carry on assuming I'll stay TS. I'm not sure I want to risk going out of control; I'm bad with food, which is why I'm in this position. And I want to be skinny more than I want a curry. Other people will eat my food, so it won't be a waste. I'll try and be in charge of taking pictures or something so I'm occupied. If I can't take it on the day and end up eating I won't beat myself up, but will try to get right back on it like you both suggest. Thank you xxx

Thank you...willpower really is key! The last thing I need is to fall off the wagon when, hopefully, I'll be getting closer to goal.

If food isn't needed then it's already wasted. Better for it to go in the bin than to treat your own body like a bin!

Haha I love that! Will remember that next time I'm tempted.

I can't remember where I heard it first, it resonated though!

It's so true though, the amount of times I've stuffed myself so as not to waste food...but that's not what our bodies are made for. We are not bins!
