Anyone up for a 30-Day Shred Challenge?

Flabuless Mama

Postpartum Mama trying to conceive
RawrGirl has the 30-Day Shred DVD, and has heard people talk about 30 day shred challenges, but she's not really sure how it works. Do you do it for 30 days straight, without a single day off? Or is it okay to do it Monday thru Friday? And does anyone want to do the challenge together...to check in every day and say we did it or not, to keep ourselves accountable, and encourage each to stick with it?

I've started it several times but never actually completed it (shame!). I used to do it every morning, including weekends. I'm away for the next week but I'd definitely be up for doing it again when I get back.

Hi guys

Do you mind if I join in?

I am going to try and start tomorrow morning but would like to report back and check in with you if I can?

Plan to buy some weights this evening :)

The clocks went back this weekend so whilst my body is in the swing of getting up effectively an hour early, I am going to try this at 6.15am weekdays!

I've just done day 5 (level 1) - should be day 6 but I had yesterday off. I plan to do it every day I possibly can. This is what I did today for the strength bit (I was just using 2 kg for everything before today):

30 Day Shred – Level 1

CIRCUIT 1

-pushups (30 seconds) Modified (from knee)
-squat and press (1.5 minutes) 3 Kg
-pushups (30 seconds) Modified (from knee)
-squat and press (1.5 minutes)
2 Kg

CIRCUIT 2

-dumbell row (pull – 30 seconds) 3 Kg
-static lunge w/ bicep curl (left – 1.5 minutes) 3 Kg
-dumbell row (pull – 30 seconds) 3 Kg
-static lunge w/ bicep curl (right – 1 .5 minutes) 3 Kg

CIRCUIT 3

-chest flys (30 seconds) 3 Kg
-anterior hand raises and side lunges (1.5 minutes) 2 kg
-chest flys (30 seconds) 3 Kg
-anterior hand raises and side lunges (1.5 minutes)
2 Kg

I could probably try 4 kg on a couple of the exercises - definitely not the antierior hand raises with side lunges though (2 kg is definitely my max for those!) but I'm going to leave it at this for tomorrow at least. Maybe I could try a full press up tomorrow though...

It would be good to have a place to check in to!

Wow Zeke, sounds good. Can I join? I am planning to start tomorrow and do 5 days a week for six weeks. I am a bit scared though that it is going to be too hard..... Will have to see how I get on tomorrow.

Anybody who wants can join!!! RawrGirl thinks it would be great to check in here every day and report if we did it or not. Does the DVD tell you how it works...like what day to do what and which level?

RawrGirl is starting tomorrow and plans to do it 5x a week at least up until Nov 21. She wants to wear her size 8 jeans to her family's on Thanksgivng...they fit in the waist with no muffin top, but she wasn't to slim down in the thigh area a bit before she is comfortable wearing them.

Me too! Looking forward to it but I'm slightly terrified as I'm going to be doing it on top of normal gym/half marathon training!

Ok, RawrGirl found this info online:

"Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred is designed in three levels to be done over the course of 30 days. Level 1 of the workout should be done for 10 days, Level 2 for 10, and Level 3 for 10. When you finally can complete Level 3 of this fitness program, stay there, or mix it up every once in a while. When I started Level 1, the first three days, I could not do everything. I had to severely modify it by using the weights only half the time each set (the other half I did without any weights at all), and doing female push-ups. On about Day 10, I could almost do the whole thing. Feel free to stay on Level 1 until you can master it, then move to Level 2. You do not have to move up every 10 days." (found at How to Do Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred | eHow.com)

Ok, so how about we do something like what they do on the weight loss challenge threads where everyone has their name and goal info in each post (just keep copying and pasting with every post). And obviously, if like Zeke, you've already started, correct your info that RawrGirl posted below. And since not everyone might not be ready to move up every 10 days, it's not like a race...but we could do something like have a goal to do it 30x by December 21, which gives 47 days to get in 30 workouts...just a little push to help motivate us with enough leeway that we don't feel like we screwed up/failed if we want to skip weekends or miss a day or two. Does that sound good?

Wow dominoes, you are hard core! RawrGirl just invited another friend to join who does kickboxing a few times a week and suggested that she make her goal 20x in 47 days. You could do something like that too, as you def don't want to over train yourself and get an injury! Does that sound good?

Haha, I love that. I was possibly the least sporty person in my year at school. Just look at me now! That does actually sound like a good idea. I'm going to try 5 mornings this week (plus running in the evenings) and see how I feel. May readjust my goal then!

Yes yes yes, I am IN! I started the shred during the summer but got half way through, got fatter and lazier etc etc.! On Friday night I gave Level 3 a whirl as I have been doing other types of exercise, but found it tough so decided then that I would start again at the beginning and work my way through it up until Xmas. So this challenge has come at the perfect time for me.

Just a note to anyone who doesn't have the DVD- neither do I! I found the 3 levels on YouTube and they work perfectly. Yippee!

I do kick-boxing classes most Mon and Weds but other than that, my exercise consists of long, fast walks with the dog and/or baby, and maybe 2 runs a week (anywhere from 4km to 8km). I won't be doing the Shred on kickboxing days but plan to do it maybe 4 out of the 5 remaining days. It doesn't take long after all!

I'm also going to make sure I get some "before" pics! Will start Level 1 on Tuesday night.

Thanks for starting this RawrGirl and good luck everyone.

Great, all set then. Good luck everyone for next week :)

Welcome, Squishy!

Dominoes, I put you at 20...feel free to change if you wish...and anyone else if your info is inaccurate.

To everyone...please copy and paste the list every time you have post. Thanks! :)

Good luck to everyone starting tomorrow!!!

Day one level one done!

I have 2kg weights and had to swap to my Zumba toning sticks here and there (about 0.5kg) but otherwise didn't find it too horrific. I think the first circuit was the worst.

Also wrote down my measurements for comparison at the end.

How is everyone else doing?

Day One, Level One...RawrGirl came home from ice skating and did Shred while her body was still warmed up and before she could get too tired. RawrGirl is with you, Nettee, she hates jumping jacks and jump rope. She can't believe she signed up for 29 more of these, lol.
