Fun Triathlon buddies needed!!!!

Hello!!

I'm planning on doing a triathlon this year, but not one of the proper ones, a 'fun' one - if that's possible :p

I haven't signed up yet but I'm hoping to do the Cheshire one on 1st June. It's a 'fun' triathlon - who knew they existed?! :p

It's 200m open water pool swim, 20km bike & 2.5km run. I feel it's doable purely because I can do all 3 & more separately, so putting it together can't be too bad?????!!!!! Although I do only swim in a pool!

I guess I'm looking for buddies who are doing something similar or just who swim, cycle or run, to help keep me motivated & give me tips ;)

Oh, my names Hannah :)

is the run last?

Yay!

Ill be ur buddy. I'm hoping to regain fitness and lose fatness.

Sounds like a good Tri :)

What's ur swimming, cycling, running like?

Mines shocking at moment. Hoping to hook my bike up to turbo to cycle whilst watching TV. Too fat to swim yet but ill be in the pool by February. Running will hurt me cos n injured so ill need to take it slowly, slowly! I'm also asthmatic. Sound like a basket case, but I'm not really. I've done a few marathons, halfs n Tri s.

Is the swim in open water as in a lake with a wet suit? If so, ul need practise cos it's different to pool swim.

How exciting?!

Excellent - thanks very much :)

My swimming is slow, cycling ok & running not brilliant but I've done 10k's in the past so need to build on short distances...

I want to take a swimming course as I don't do crawl & need to learn the proper technique. I've checked out the swim & it's not open water thank god, misinterpreted, it's a lido. So brine water outside but heated....nice !

Doesn't sound like you're having much luck with an injury & that...I went over on my ankle last September & never really got back to running again. I've done a few short ones & it felt ok, so fingers crossed! Re-joining the gym this week for the pool & their spin room. It's great because you don't need to go to a class, when no classes are on you ca set up your own workout :) There's good cycling & running round my way anyway so training should be easily accessible depending in my laziness!!

Sounds like you've done a lot. Any tri advice would be greatly appreciated....I'm concerned about clothing at the mo...I was thinking costume in the pool but then put leggings & a vest over for the rest of it? I don't like those crazy bike pedals, just the regular so will just wear running shoes for the bike...

Need to sign up tonight if the website is back up & running....eek!!!

Nice one!!!

Def get swimming lessons. I did and learned how to front crawl and now I find it easier than breast stroke! Where do u live? There's lots of good swim courses around.

U can wear a tri suit which feels like a long legged swimming costume. Its also padded for the bike bit and has pockets at back for bits n bobs. U can run in Tri suit too. They're really versatile! U won't need anything like leggings etc. just the Tri suit. I got a nice one out of Aldi for about £15. Just make sure it zips up the front. I bought one that zipped up the back and had to get others to help me in and out if it! Ul also need a Tri belt which costs about £5. It's basically an elastic belt that u attach ur race number to. When ur cycling u swing ur number round to ur back and then swing it round to front for run.
I had normal pedals and ran in trainers. I'm trying bike shoes and then change over before run :)

Tri suit????? They scare me - all that Lycra & skin tightness, yuk!! But I understand it's probably the best thing!! Yep zip at back - tricky!!

I live in York & use the local council pool, they do lessons so I'll book in...

Do you have anything you're aiming for this year??

I've got a marathon in April but its 97 days away and I really don't think ill get to 26.2 miles by then. I want to book a Tri, to get me going. Tri is much kinder to my joints than a marathon! Not really sure what ill do. Try to drop weight n improve fitness really is the main aim :)

Wow a marathon!! You've done one/some before you said? Muscle memory - does that work?! May be not for 26.2 miles!! Love that you know exactly how many days....could you run/walk it?? I couldn't run that long, or train for that matter, I'm not a long distance girl - get too bored which is why I think the tri is better. And as you say kinder to joints!!

Fun2tri is a great website I think it's uk triathlons and they host them all over. I think all but 1 has the 'fun' triathlon for novices/the less fit & also the sprint.

Improve fitness & decrease flabbiness is my main aim, I'd like to drop about half a stone but I've been dancing around my current weight for so many years now I'm mostly ok with it - just want to tone :)

the distance isn't that long, you can do some speed on that one. id say just sprint it. if you can do a 10k, then you can run 1/4 of it!

2014: which marathon? ive got one in april aswell. might defer from it to do Manchester instead

If the marathon is in April....could it be the big one London????

Yup! London marathon. Bricking it cos I used to be super fit. It will kill me! I might defer because I'd love to give it my best shot because its so hard to get into. Ill see how my hips n injuries fair. I don't want to walk it/run it, wd rather wait another year and hope that I cd run it n do a PB...

It's the London marathon. Might defer. Not sure. Sister is doing Manchester the week before. I ran Manchester marathon two years ago. Good one to do. Good support :)

If my legs are still working Gina I'll sprint the 'run' section! They could well be jelly-ish by then!! Have you done a marathon before??

Trying - so can you defer your place till next year? Sounds like it might be a better option for you especially with injuries. And then slowly build yourself up to next April!

2 so far, 7 more planned!
realistically you can do a fast time for the run part. the shorter distance will allow for that :)

11 monthes, the first 2 I did were only done in December and 30 days apart from each other :)

a few halves, 10k's, 5k's, 10 and 20 milers in between them so a little break in there too :D
