Just wondering if there are any other ladies that use weights either at home or at the gym. Would really like to chat to other like minded people

Hey I love women that lift, I recently got my wife into lifting after about 4 months of trying to convince her that weights wont make her look like Arnold Schwarzenegger.
I think this is the main hold back from women lifting. Alot dont realise 2 things a) light weights dont make huge muscles and b) ladies naturally lack the amount of testosterone that would cause big muscle growth.
Anyway good luck :) i hope u find fellow lifters on here. they may just be busy at the mo'

im a lifter, but rarely have the time anymore. long distance running has taken up a lot of free time, still like to do a quick weight sesh twice a week :)

love the heavier weights

Thanks for the replies, yeah I think the stigma is difficult to get around, I struggled with it myself. It's a shame as there are so many benefits!!!!

I actually want to bulk up a little, on my arms especially. hate how scrawny they look

been doing mainly triceps and bicep exercises, so far all they have done is make them thinner

Me Me!!!

I love lifting! Working out to Chalean Extreme currently... On the last phase - dont do gym, all at home.

What sort of training are you doing? Do you do any cardio? I'd love to hear your thots on cardio...

I see we are both 5.2. My target weight is higher than your start weight (never been a skinny person :sigh:). How did you decide on your goal weight?

Well - I have incorporated cardio into my routine, mostly due because I think it's important for your cardiovascular system, I'm not really doing it for weight loss. I would also like to be able to run for the bus if I need to. But primarily my exercise is coming from lifting heavy.
So glad to hear that you are also, I'm following the new rules of lifting for women which is awesome, for beginner programmes I would probably recommend this, strong lifts 5x5, or starting strength. All will have you doing the big compound moves.
To be honest I'm not that focused on my weight, so I wouldn't get to hung up about it. You could stay the same weight, but drop loads of body fat, and substitute the fat for muscle and look amazing!!!!!
What kind of routine are you following????

Hey I go to the gym do body pump classes which involves bench presses weighted squats etc I actually have biceps these days!! :p amazing!! haha I can also do proper press ups!! like not the girly ones on your kness like proper boy press ups!! :p never could do that before!!

Brilliant - I think push ups are my most hated exercise but they are so good for your upper body - and squats are amazing for your bum muscles!!! I did a session at the gym yesterday and they are hurting so bad this morning lol

I am no longer hung up on the scale and know that's not what matters... With lifting, even though I am still the same dress size, I look leaner - even my mum told me to stop the weight loss as she afraid I will end up looking sickly :p. I am no longer unhappy about how I look and feel, but I still think about what to aim for... Just a number - if that makes any sense?

Agree on the cardio front - now I stick to about 2 HIIT sessions a week and thats it! Not affected my loss at all.

Started doing free weights at home by myself. Then discovered Chalean Extreme. Now doing the 3rd month of this programme.

I was considering NROLFW after completing Chalean, but then came across Body Beast! Going to start that programme in the middle of April (and I cant wait!).

Ive not come across either if those?? What do they involve, might have to go and have a little look!! It's amazing really as I have recently been on a course about healthy eating and exercise for work. The trainer showed two pictures both before and after of two ladies and asked what we thought the difference in weight was. Both ladies looked completely different in their pictures. Well everyone guessed they had lost weight in both, when actually the first lady had stayed the same weigh and the second had gained weight. Both had put on muscle and looked amazing. I think it was a real eye opener for a lot of the group!!!!

Ive seen those comparison pics online as well! And its astonishing how good muscle looks!

The programs are from Beachbody. I love working out with them as I feel I am in a group class without actually having to talk to anyone! :p

gemmybean - the system wont let me accept your friend request!!!! I'll keep trying ...

Lol brilliant!!! I'm gutted really as I didn't take a picture of myself right at the beginning - I feel stronger, but it would be great to be be able to look at that starting point and see how much I've changed over the past few months.
Are you increasing your weights progressively?
