Have you ever run before? What are your goals? Its hard to give advice without knowing these things.
But as a starter, if you are completely new at it expect to take time to get comfortable and take it slow so you don't get injured or burn out.

Recommend Couch to 5K as a great way to get started at a slow and steady rate - some fab podcasts to download from itunes or NHS choices site

    Good luck x

Start off easy when you start running as too much too quick can cause some initial damage. As a first phase undertake an alternating run/brisk walk and then escalate it from there.

Then I agree with S_J_B, something like Couch to 5k would be good. Google beginner running plan and find something that suits you.
I started running last year with an 8wk to 5k plan and when that was done slowly started to increase the distance and time. Just remember to go slow and be patient, you will get there.

Cuch to 5K would be a good way to break into it. Remember though it takes patience and wont be an instant "I can run for 5k"..you need to build up to it...and don't worry if you can't do the first days exercises on your first day.

C25K recommends three sessions a week with rest days in between. Its starts around 20-25 minutes and builds. Just follow the plan - it really works

3 times a week is a good start, it gives you recovery days between each run - recovery time should never be underestimated when you run, its good exercise because its hard on the body!
