Just wanted to say that for anyone who wants to do more exercise, setting yourself a goal to get yourself out running can be really achievable.

I lost about 2 stone last year with SW online. It started to plateau and I was struggling to stay focused and half a stone crept back on, so I decided it was time to get more active.

Now at the start I wasn't totally inactive. I have a dog that needs walking and a stable that needs mucking out, but running wasn't anything I took pleasure from at all. In fact I hated it.

Anyway, in December I got myself a personal trainer. I'm rubbish at motivating myself so a pt works for me, but with my pt I was mostly doing circuits/ weights and strength based training. To make this more effective for fitness and weight loss I really needed to get in some cardio. I decided that if I entered a 5k for a couple of months ahead I would be forced to train for it, so that's exactly what I did

I combined using a treadmill with actually getting outside and running. I started with the treadmill doing a bit of running, then walking, then running again and built it up.

Anyway, yesterday I completed my first 5k. I ran all the way, I didn't finish last (although I was completely prepared to) and I did it in 35 minutes. ....and it wasn't awful. I quite enjoyed it and I'm planning on entering more.

Until a couple of months ago I hadn't done any running for at least 15 years and I definitely believe that 5k is achievable for anyone who puts their mind to it.

There is also a lady in my SW group who, a few years ago could not even walk her dog without being out of breath. She started walking and then power walking and finally running. Now, 6 stone lighter she is about to take on the London marathon.

So, go out there today. Walk a bit, run a bit, walk again.... whatever you can do. Do a bit more tomorrow. Challenge yourself and you never know where it might take you ☺☺☺☺☺

Congratulations and well done that is a wonderful achievement:happy096:

Wow that's amazing!!! It's great motivation when I see other people achieve their goals :)
I have set myself a 5k run goal also.
Atm I am quite inactive Iwant to lose just under 2stone by my birthday. Entering the race for life just 3days after my birthday!!!
I hope I manage it like you and sarahonadiet too (i doubt i be doing 10k though, will stick to 5k)

I started the couch to 5 k training just before i started slmming world and its a fabulous app that gets you running. Ive lost 8.5lbs so far and i have a run that i have entered in for june. very excited :)

I'm doing another in 3 weeks. Much less scared this time as I know I can do it

That's fabulous I can't wait to be on that position. I'm not scared of my first run just can't wait to get to that level of running again :)

I've been looking at more runs, swims, cycles just want to keep my fitness this time :)

Is yours for charity??

Yay for you hun that's great!!
I have been using the couch to 10k app for 3weeks now and I'm amazed how much its helped my fitness and increased my weight loss. I began with the goal of doing the 5k but now I am determined to do the 10k. Crazy I know but what's the point in me setting an easy goal ;)

I'm not doing mine for charity - just for myself.

I did a few charity events a couple of years ago - the great North Swim and another open water swim - and a lot of people sponsored me but I'm sure people get fed up with being asked all the time.

There are so many people doing Race for LIfe and similar which is a great event for a great cause, but there is always someone asking. I kind of set myself an informal rule that I would only sponsor people who are really doing something hard, so I have just sponsored a friend who is doing her first Marathon which is this years London Marathon. She has worked really hard and deserves to raise loads of money.

I would just feel like a fraud asking people to sponsor me for something which to be honest didn't take all that much effort. I might think about doing it for charity if I brave a 10K, or maybe a triathlon

Which C210k app are you using? I've done the NHS 5k one and now I'd like to take the next step but there are so many different apps/plans out there.

I think its called 10k for pink (for race for life i guess but doesn't actually mention it) its by zenlabs if that helps. I have been really enjoying it actually. Its helping my weight loss and is making me feel generally fitter too :) I only downloaded the 10k as the first 8weeks are exactly the same anyway so thought when i get to end i can continue to push myself ;)

I've got the zen labs 10k one and will be following through from 5k.

How far are you now? I am on week 6. On day 2 tomorrow. Im not struggling like i thought I would either :)

That's really fab it's good to hear your not struggling as looking at the weeks ahead does look downting

I complete week 5 day 2 yesterday and tomorrow I have day 3 which is the 20 min run.

I'm in two minds about it really, one is that I've not ran for that long for a longggggg time and the second is that I'm actually looking forward to doing a block run instead of little runs.

Loving the program

I used to hate running and now I'm really enjoying it. Wierd isn't it?

Yes I'm the same I love to run it clears my head.

Because I'm really overweight it is hard work but each week I'm getting lighter so i will improve :)
