How did you get motivation to take over the "sofa" habbit???

Ok so I am a bit ashamed to admit this.... I am very very lazy :( The most exercise I do is the housework, running the stairs a million times a day for little one n housework, n doing the odd jog with 4year olds at work couple times a week)
Otherwise, I'm on the sofa. Watching tv, chilling on my phone, thinking about but never actually exercising :( Today whilst little one has his nap I'm laying on the floor doing like a bycical thing. I am desperate to lose weight as I don't even fit my clothes anymore. I have started slimming world also but just changing my diet will only bring minimal weigh loss.

I want so desperatly to be a exercise fanatic. Someone who actually enjoys it and does it as part of there everyday life.

So how do I turn this wanting into reality?? I cant afford the gym atm so that is out of the question.
Any advice from anyone else who initally or still does struggle would be greatly apprieated!!

Ok so in my attempt to be less lazy and get in shape I have downloaded the couch to 10k app on andriod.
Its the same as the 5k till you get to that point, just continues after up till 10k.
I will most likely only manage the 5k but I really really want to challenge and push myself to be the best I can be!!
I did the first jog on it last night and found it ok. I put a movie on (have crosstrainer, which is easier on my knees) and the app is so good it tells u when to walk/run so you dont need to constantly look at it :)

Three times a week this app tells me to jog so i think it will be doable. Fingers crossed!!

My advice would be to think about what sort of exercise you'd enjoy doing as if you dont enjoy it you're unlikely to stick to it!

It might be something you played at school and can find a local club / group, or something you've always fancied doing but never gone for it? I know it can be hard to motivate yourself to do it at first but if you keep something up for a few weeks it'll become habit.

If you're the type of person that rises to tough challenges and likes being held accountable for your actions some sort of program like 'insanity' would be good (but tough) and although at first you dread the workouts after a while you kind of get addicted to it!

If you think you'd probably end up doing it a couple of times and then giving in it may be better going down the route of finding a workout partner - just a friend or someone with similar goals so then you can encourage each other and be less likely to skip the workout - you can decide between you what exercise you want to do and its a way of getting some social time in as well.

You'll be surprised how many calories you actually lose doing housework and running up and down stairs. you are increasing your N.E.A.T. (Non exercise activity thermogenesis).

basically it's the amount of movement you do during your normal day. Everything from going up stairs to housework to fidgeting.

It's trying to get us to spend less time being completely sedentary ie laid on the couch or in a chair. A BBC "Horizon" documentary looked at N.E.A.T. in detail together with other
new radical exercise ideas. It came up with a phrase "The chair is a killer"

Put Neat exercise or "The chair is a killer" into google and you can get lots of information about it and what was covered in the documentary.

Simple things like if you make a phone call. don't do it sitting down. Talk while your walking round the room. When the adverts come on during a film or t.v. programme, have a quick wander
round the room.

a study in the US revealed that obese people spend nearly 2.5 hours a day seated longer than their lean counterparts.

It may sound a bit over the top but it works. It certainly helped me lose weight.

look it up and find out for yourself.

I'm lazy too so I get round it by having a pt that comes to my house and makes me exercise lol. Yes it's not cheap at £25 a pop but I feel the investment into my health is worth it, plus the fitter I get the more I feel the need to exercise alone to burn off my excess energy.

My other advise is to get out in the sunshine and go to the park /countryside and have a good walk. Not only is it great exercise but it's great for your mental health too. If you don't have a dog, I bet you have a neighbour that works full time who would jump at the chance for someone to help out walking their dog. If you have a dog that needs a walk you have to go!!

Exercise doesn't need to be killing yourself at the gym.☺

Thanks guys :)
Dave W - I am so going to look up N.E.A.T it sounds really interesting :)

I love a good challenge, and I love to have a goal to look for so I have decided I will be running the 10k race for life not 5k :)
I did day two last night and again it was good. Afterwards I felt invigorated like I could take over the world. (And kept imagining myself running the 10k at the skinny size I want to be)
I'm going to use this as my exercise journal.
Someone told me the first week or two of exercise I wont lose weight as my body will suddenly protect itself from new exercise and put on water weight :(

Does anyone know if this is true?

I suppose that would depnd on how well you normally keep yourself hydrated, I tend to find the first week back to exercise after a holiday or something I lose quite a lot quickly. I've never heard of water weight during a new fitness regime though.

If you suddenly start a fitness regime you may find that you add a little bit of muscle which may look like youre not losing weight, but as the muscle weighs more than fat you could still be losing fat, which obviously is the goal!

It's often better to not weigh yourself as often and instead see how your clothes are fitting better / progress photos / tape measure etc

Last night I did my day 1 of week 3. Getting tougher now as having to jog for much longer (3mins) but its not as difficult as i thought it would be and despite going off plan over easter weekend I still lost 2lb monday :D Now I'm 9.9 and starting to feel great!!!
I have a way to go but I amso very positive. Atm my twomain priorities (other than my amazing son of course) is my weight loss/fitness and finishing the last of my level 3 diploma in childcare. Both are very time consuming but I should hopefully finish both by July meaning I can enjoy the 6weeks holidays with my boy, family and friends. Feeling and looking great and knowing I will get a pay rise come Autum term for being qualified!!
I can't believe how much I am achieving and I am determined to carry on and run the 10k race for life three days after my birthday!!!!
