Alternative power source for laptop?

I know it's a long shot, but can a usb port be used to power a laptop?

My power socket has broken (again).

The power 'comes out' of the usb port to another device, not the other way around. Well, I don't think so anyway

I used to have problems with my previous notebook and the power adaptors. They were always breaking. Not the socket mind you. I considered getting one of these to help protect it. Meanwhile, I bought a few adaptors from Ebay (one every couple of months) so I could just move the laptop rather than keep unplugging from the main socket and moving it around.

Perhaps Pierce knows a solution?

Thanks KD, i appreciate your reply. Guess i will just have to put it away, seems such a shame when the laptop is fine! I have had it mended 3 times now though, so i think i have spent enough money on it!
