I see this thread hasnt been updated in a while, but i could really do with some help. I started SW 2 weeks ago I have lost whilst using this BUT I am finding it really hard to know what I can and cant have, and seem to feel hungry most of the time?
I have never tried weight watchers. I think I need something more disciplined than SW to get me used to smaller portions etc or am I just being silly?
I am really really motivated to loose weight, but I need to make sure I am using the right plan for me, any advice would be appreciated.
    Thank youl.

There's a similar thread on the WW boards with a fair amount of posts in it, have you had a look at that?

Hey I do Slimming World... and find it so easy! As you are basically eating as much fruit and veg as you like... as many eggs, muller lights/ activia fat free/ other fat free yogurts as you like and depending on your colour as much pasta, potatos, rice, beans on green or meat fish chicken on red... OR both on Extra easy So much handier than Weightwatchers were even a banana is points and its fruit!

Slimming world has encouraged me to cut back on the treats and so the fat... chocolate crisps etc. i remember on ww i would eat snack foods all the time instead of proper rounded meals... it did me no good as i would get hungry and overeat!

Everyone is different... HOpe you find the lifestyle that suits you!

Hi, have done Weightwatchers, but found I became somewhat obsessed with food, adding everything up. I went with my mum and she cheated somewhat, bumping up her points, but I stuck to it religiously, even downing my points, if borderline, but did not lose much and one week I put on - was mortified. My mum, on the otherhand lost loads and I mean loads. You can also graze with Weightwatchers - should you want to, they have free foods. I believe you have to find something that suits you. The best diet I have ever done is Slimfast. I do modify it. Have one shake, lunch I have 200 cals and evening you can have anything up to 700 cals, plus three 100 cal snacks throughout day. It is so easy and I lost 1 stone in a month. Had 2 stone to lose, but seemed to stop at that point, I think its known as plateaud. Its been a few months now, but I have not put any of that back on and am going to start again. Good luck with whatever you choose. Like I said, I truly believe when you find what suits, and stick to it, it does come off.

I have tried WW and lost 1.5st a few years back, but needless to say it is hard to maintain your weight and I put it all back on. WW was a pain, with weighing measuring, counting points etc and I got bored on the diet.
I am now on SW and finding it a much easier plan to follow, as it is definately the kind of food we should all be eating as part of a healthy diet. The only things that are "syns" are the things that should only be eaten as treats anyway and not part of your daily diet. You can also carry syns over if you have a special meal/outing to go to as well, which is handy. I've lost 1/2stone in 3 weeks so far and i'm happy with that. I believe that too much weight loss too quickly means that you are losing fluid and tissue rather than fat, which is why it goes back on so easily when you try and eat properly again.
Good luck with whatever you chose to do.

Re: weight watchers vs slimming world

A lot of it I think is down to your mentality towards food... for me sw did not help me tackle my problem of overeating, and I've switched too ww recently and it does give me a real sense of how much I used to overeat, the new plan is also very forgiving with their weekly points. I felt almost punished on sw if I needed a ready meal on a rushed night, that said I'm forever grateful for sw for making me learn to cook from scratch.

I did slimming world for a year and although it works it doesn teach you portion control so if you stop the diet i found i just went back to mixing my foods etc which was my own fault, weight watcher i was hungry all the time, i have a massive appetite and i love my food, i have been doing rosemary conolly for a year now and the diet encourages you to exercise which was my problem, i go get wieghed do a class and when i go home i eat normally i am at healthy bmi and i find it easier than either of the above, if i had to pick i would say slimming world because you dont feel hungry, both are good but i think its about finding one that works for you.

Thumbs down wish me luck guys:)

Hiya to all, im new using mini mins... in response to what u asked, to be honest I've done both ww and sw and i think i lost around the same weight, like 2-3 lbs a week, i cant say which one makes u loose the most weight as i find this can change on a weekly base according how much sport u do and things like star week and just simply how the body adjusts itself...Personally l found both plans had their pros and cons so its really hard for me to pick my fave:- I liked the sw diet purely because when your sins run out you don't start panicking as u have the option to snack on fruits, fat free yogurts and free food, but then again ww has the advantage that u can grab a sandwich on the go and eat more of what u like thats naughty but when yr points run out yr a bit like 'arggg i cant even eat a fruit' and theres been times when my mums brought cherries and watermelons and i knew i couldn't eat it because it would use most of my points ....I'm going to try ww again as i have gained 3 half stones :i was really slim few yrs back and now gained it all back, the reason why im gonna try ww is because i wanna get myself used to eating smaller portions and have the comfort of grabbing food when im out and about, where as with sw i tend to over eat and feel bloated all day, wish me luck guys, im gonna go on holiday in 7 months time, do u lot think i can loose 3 half stones by 7 months thanks x

I know this is an old thread by I wanted to add my two pence :-)

I did WW back in Germany a few years ago (fruit was always free back then - WW plans vary in different countries). But no matter what, I always had the feeling I was eating too little. I was always hungry and you tend to use your points for the wrong foods. As fruit and veg usually make me feel even more hungry there was no point snacking on them all the time. I just felt deprived. Apart from free fruit and veg you don't really learn which foods are really the best choice. I did lose weight though.

When I moved to the UK I heard about Slimming World and was intrigued.
Yes, I also have a problem with portion control (which overweight person hasn't?) but I can't say that SW encourages me to indulge in food until I'm bursting, either. I am going to tell you why in a minute.

The good thing about SW is, that is is realistic. It's not meant as a diet - technically you can stick to it for the rest of your life. Unlike counting calories (or points) all the time. Let's face it, most people go back to their old ways once they have lost their weight. But this is neither SW's fault nor WW's. BUT, Slimming World can encourage people to stick to the plan forever because it is a realistic way of eating. They encourage you to eat the right foods as much as you like (preferably until you feel full) eg pasta, potatoes, rice, meat, fruit, veg, eggs, yogurt etc. And they do teach you portion control, indeed. You should control the "wrong" type of foods. That's why SW uses syns to control any foods you should not over indulge. Healthy Extras also control the amount of healthy food that you shouldn't eat too much from but it is still a realistic amount (dairy and wholemeal products, nuts, oil). You never feel hungry because of the sheer amount of free foods. You can mix two food groups together on the extra easy plan or you can do a green or red day and use foods from the other food group as a syn or healthy extra. For me that is more than enough. And this is the best thing (especially for those people who claim that SW don't teach you portion control): If you stick to the plan your body automatically adjusts and stops you from craving all the stuff that makes you fat AND it also makes you so full that you don't actually have the desire to eat more. That way portion control happens automatically - I know what I am talking about.

I think everybody is different and I don't want to bash WW but because you can eat anything you like on Weight Watchers and you never actually know what can curb your hunger (and I am convinced you don't eat enough anyway), you mostly end up eating the foods that will not make you crave less but actually more.

There are a few things I don't particularly like about Slimming World though: As with so many plans, it kind of encourages you to have artificial sweetener a lot. But because the plan is so flexible I can still opt out on this and if I'm really craving something sweet I am happy to sacrifice a few syns.
Also, this might not be a good plan for people who don't like cooking or organizing their own meals. You really should be cooking from scratch on SW and this, to my mind, is a very good thing. Someone who queries this doesn't really want to take healthy eating seriously. You can't be healthy and live on ready meals. It just doesn't work - you might lose weight but it is really not that good for your body. Even if it says 5.5 Points on the package....

I hope that helps someone who needs to make a decision.

    To judywoody,
Thank you so much for writing down your "2 pence" worth!
I have been doing WW for 19 weeks and although I have had success (1.5 stone) I feel it isn't really working for me any more. I find I am feeling hungry more and I am tired counting.
I suppose if I am honest I am bored dieting a d want the final 1.5 stone to melt away!!
I have been thinking about trying SW to see if the will kick start my final weight loss mountain!!
I like what you say about it teaching portion control- I really need help with that as I don't seem to have a cut off button!!
Anyway, you took the time to share your experiences and I just wanted to take the time to thank you for it

Just wanted to update this. I did go back to weightwatchers on the propoints and lost 1.5 stone. I must say i did feel hungry on it, but if you learn to use your points right, you can eat loads. My mum who had success on the points plan has had virtually no success on propoints. I do know the less you eat the less you want to eat, which i think is a good thing, if your eating enough and right. As for sw, ive never done it but have heard good things about the easy plan they have. Have stopped weightwatchers at the mo and am doing slimm which is a food supplement like slimfast, and lost 8lbs but will maintain on weightwatchers.

It's slimming world for me. Points...... Who needs to count. I do enough of that in work, I do accounts!! Give me sw, where I can I eat and eat and eat. And no, I don't excessively abuse food (I'm at target, lost 6+ stone in a year), but I do love food. I love my carbs do stick to green days as EE doesn't seem to work for me.
