Green tea and weight loss = real deal?

    Hello everybody!

I hate to admit it but I’m constantly scouring the internet for quick fixes and weight loss aids. Although I’m not stupid enough to think that drinking green tea alone is going to be satisfactory for significant weight loss – it would appear that green tea can still be quite useful as a weight loss aid (or at least this is what the world wide web is feeding me!!)

Has anyone else ever heard this? Ever tried it? Has is ever worked? Or is it a load of old codswallop?

I’d really appreciate your opinions – thanks everyone J

    Love

    Me xx

I drink it as it helps with bloating. Refreshing too, i drink the Tetleys one with lemon. Use less milk that way. I've heard people say its an appetite repressant etc. Dont know how true that is as i dont drink enough cups to try it.

I drink 3-4 cups of green tea with lemon a day & it definitely helps with bloating. I usually reach for a cup if I'm craving something sweet & it does help with that too.

I dont know how much I would say it alone has helped me with weight loss but it certainly hasnt done me any harm & it does help me control any evening munchies which cannot be a bad thing. Like you I had read soo much about it aiding weightloss I had to give it a go. You know how it is... you try anything

Green tea does have lots of healthy properties but I'm not sure it directly aids weight loss. I prefer peppermint tea as I love the refreshing taste and that helps with bloating too.

I have tried specialised herbal teas in the past and they did help suppress my appetite. They tasted disgusting (putting it nicely) but did the job. When I got off them I couldn't actually drink them again because I couldn't stomach the taste at all. I'm sure I lost weight then as I didn't eat much but didn't really note down the loss. It was called Paiyouji Plus from one of my local gyms. There are replicas to be aware of. There were a few people at the gym that swore by them and lost loads.. didn't work for me in the long run. Just remembering the taste...

    Hope that helps.

I must have a really really slow metabolic rate as I can drink up to 10 cups a day and still can't shift the lbs.

As mentioned before getting a taste for it reduces your milk in tea consumpion. So whatever the diet it will help reduce calories

I like the fruity green teas but cannot stand the plain one! I don't think it helps with weight loss but as mentioned it helps with bloating and it has plenty of other health benefits

Ooh, I'm so glad that I read this. Thanks for that advice, WL Epiphany..I'll try that instead this week. I usually just dunk the tea bag as I'm so impatient!. I think the fruit teas are good if you are having craving for something sweet..especially cherry, yum.

I haven't tried the fruity ones - something about hot fruity flavourings puts me off, reminds me of hot Ribena that motherkins used to serve when we were ill as children!

I love Japanese green tea though. I haven't found a decent imported version yet (at least, not one that compares to my favourite restaurant), but the Clipper green tea is quite nice. I'm trying to get back into the habit of drinking it more, mostly because after today's foray with "syn free tea" (sweetener + healthy extra milk) I know I won't be trying that again!

I love the version the Chinese restaurant does of green teas. Tastes so light and refreshing!

I actually found one very similar in a chinese supermarket store. It was actually made up of loose green leaves. Unfortunately I find it a hassle to make but otherwise lovely! I can try and find out the brand/name if you're interested but I'd suggest looking around in your nearest chinese store.

Yeah, I've tried various Chinese and Japanese imported green teas from chinese supermarkets and japanese online shops, just haven't found that right one yet! I'm fine with loose leaf, one of my favourite teas is a loose leaf blend, but it's just finding the right one

I've been trying to add as many "superfoods" to my day as I can and green tea is on the list.

I've tried it, haven't developed a taste for it yet. A friend suggested trying it cold from the fridge. I will give it a go. Can't hurt to try, I've already bought the box.
